As a small business owner, it can be easy to get lost in the need to keep your head above water and make money. What can sometimes fall by the wayside is the idea that focusing more on making customers happy can actually lead to an increase in sales. Engaging with the Customer Online
One place that small business owners often cringe to visit is their social media pages or review websites such as Yelp. These can sometimes seem like a waste of time or a source of negative energy. If you see a negative review online, however, do not brush it off. Oftentimes a concerned comment back and an offer to make things right can completely change a customer’s view of your business. You can make things right.

Catering to Customers in Restaurants
While it may seem most lucrative to turn over tables quickly, it is important to keep in mind that some customers may just want to sit and chat. Upon first glance, this seems like it will decrease your sales. However, remaining pleasant with these customers and not rushing them out will leave them with better things to say about your business. Word of mouth cannot be underestimated. Not only will these customers come back, but they will tell their friends and family about your business.

Listening to the Customer in Retail
Paying attention to what the customer wants in retail stores is also very beneficial. Instead of turning someone away if you do not sell what they are looking for, engage them and get more details. Perhaps special order something for them. This will get them back into the store, and again, leave them with good things to say about your business.

All in all, thinking of things on a larger scale is a great way to both improve your service and increase your sales. If you are making the customer happy, they are more likely to spend their money with you.
