Why is it that many people in the business world, not just limited to the auto industry, are compelled to lie to customers, vendors, people they have relationships with, and it is allowed?
I have had to back peddle myself and the dealership through seas and oceas of lies when an issue is escalated to management! Sometimes, I find folks lie because they no longer know how to tell the truth, even when the truth would have been an easier route!
This continues to baffle me and I was wondering if many others experience this trait in the business world! Now my question: What measures can we take to make it stop?

It starts at the top.....my first job in this business, mgr asked me what was the one thing that I was afraid of in deciding to sell cars......I said lying to customers. He said 'great, because if you ever do, you're fired.'
If Owners, GM's and all the way down set the example, if a manager lies, he's gone, GSM lies, he's fired, salesperson lies........fired. That is how you stop it- DO NOT TOLERATE IT!

Well alot of people do not think before they speak. When they do they tend to wing it. Usually it is an exaggeration or a lie. Think before you speak would be a good start.
Express truth in every meeting, plus due bill must be implemented.my due bills ALL read this: SOLD AS IS AND AS EQUIPPED, NO FREE WORK OF ANY KIND, NO VERBALE PROMISES HONARD OR IMPLIED,THANK YOU FOR THE BUSINESS. Any work must be on due bill otherwise its a charge back to the sales represenative in full not a presentage.

.......Speaks highly of the ones you trust to others and say nothing about the others.
Tell the Truth....that would pretty much stop it.
Lead by example and hire carefully.
Sales people that will be good for your business and brand need to be genuine. This is not the norm. Sales people everywhere are guilty of over selling and under delivering. I find that it's always best practice to lead with the price and what that price DOESN'T cover. Making your people learn your proper, ethical, and successful sales techniques by rote is a great way to ensure consistency from the top on down.
