Looking for lightning in a bottle.
I was just looking at all of the dealers looking for GM’s and GSM’s along the east coast and when I look back at my own data these are the same dealerswho were looking for a manager as quickly as 30 days ago and have gone through as many as a manager every 30 or 60 days. These same dealers do not invest in real training of managers. It is clear that they are looking for that instant shot in the arm, the lightning in bottle manager that is going to hit the ground running and give them instant gratification. It is sad to see this on a monthly basis with dealers. The reason this happens is that normally they make enough money in service to hide their sins of low sales from the standpoint of not going broke. It has always been my findings that most great managers are not hired per say, they are trained and taught to be a great manager and that takes a little time. That is why I developed the “Managers Mentor program for dealers. Dealers you need to get off the “ Manager Merry Go Round” and make better hiring decisions which is why I also developed the 58 question managers test design strictly for automotive dealers and managers. I have to laugh when I have applied for jobs in the past and the first thing the HR department or the head hunter does is send me the typical 40 year old predictive index test that has nothing to do with automotive knowledge, which by the way has been ruled in courts as being illegal, but dealers still use them for some reason. It makes you wonder if they can’t figure out that their hiring system is not working, how will they ever know when they do get that lightning in a bottle manager?
When will these type dealers learn that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results?
