It has been very disheartening to go into a dealership and having to go in behind one of the Slick Willie consultants that a dealer hired in hopes of making his dealership a better place to work and to create a more enjoyable workplace and a better buying experience for their customers all while making more money at the same time.
Now on the flip slide it has been a truly wonderful experience to go in behind one of these so called Super Stars and make such a huge difference in the lives of the dealer principle and his employees and the dealer tells you in the first week that they got triple more than their moneys worth from you compared to Slick Willie.
We who ask a dealer to pay us their hard earned money should always leave the dealer in much better shape than we when came. It is our obligation as a professional and as a human being of mankind.
Since joining DealerElite I see that there are more consultants than ever out there and I am sure that most of them are very good at what they do. However I think it is time that more dealers give us so called “ unknowns” a chance to prove that we do more than sell pretty book of rehashed materials from 50 years ago and videos that do pretty much the same.
I would like to repeat an age old saying that “ Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results” and that is what dealers do. They fall prey to the whole “ Oh well my trainers did their part, you must not have kept up the proper training on your end” excuse and they pay the same trainer a huge fee again.
The truth is that most of us “Unknowns” will do a much better job because we are having to build our reputation, we have not had the luxury of being promoted for free by manufacturers and publications, we cannot rest on our laurels of past glory days, we have to do it right the first time.
We understand that we have an obligation to do what’s right for the dealer and not for ourselves.
