When recruiting sales people would you use just on line adds? Or newspaper as well? What do you think of Craigs list and Back page?

When recruiting any media only serves to reach more people. So use all that you can use based on budget. Most serious candidates would be using various sites like Monster, Career Builders, etc so post it there too. Run an display ad in the local Sunday classifieds under sales. Have people attend a career night where you give an overview of the opportunity, answer any questions and then set up private interviews. You will thin your group out this way and only have those that are serious remain for the second phase of interviews.
Some of the best salespeople are recruited by managers that meet salespeople from other professions while shopping themselves. While looking around at Best Buy, furniture/appliance, high-line clothing, jewelry, etc.- consider these industries are all suffering as well and there are many qualified salespeople looking for a career change that would be a great addition to your team! By the way, they already work 'terrible retail hours', late nights and weekends and might find your dealership's sales schedule a little better than what they have now. Another plus, they are already 'making a living by selling', you just have to teach them to sell cars! It's a little more work but, you may find a real pro without having to compete with all the other classified ads where yours is placed.
So True Alan. I have also done this I was even escorted out of Macy's department store after pitching the sales people with the benifits of car sales... Oh well that did not stop me from getting one from Target and sears. LOL. Good post Alan!

A good friend of mine is currently looking for a new BDC rep, and he's gotten a lot of responses via CraigsList ads - though they haven't been the most qualified of candidates, almost anyone can be trained. I suppose if you consider it, people who apply from Monster, or the newspaper may not be the best candidates either.

Although I feel CraigsList is a nice medium to use, I have a hard time taking jobs seriously that are found on the same website as "Missed Connections" and "Discreet Meeting Requests".

Just my two cents. :)
