Should desk logs still be used today or do you think they are outdated and why?

Some dealers still use a desk log. Many have different things on them that are important. What are the most important things that should be on all the desk logs used today?

One of the best things on a desk log that I have looked at was, did manager talk to customer LAST. This did not say did the manager T'O' the deal. This makes sure that the managers have the last words with the customer. I think a desk log helps all managers make sure all the steps of a sale are done before the deal is worked. This is like an appointment board. It is only good if used correctly.

I agree with you Aaron. But the point the owner is making is the manager makes sure that all steps of a sale are done by simply checking them off on a desk log. The other point is the owner has 11 locations and doesn't want to go to a computer to look up the answers when he can just look at a desk log. How many sold, appointments, be backs ans so forth.Takes 30 seconds to do this so doing it twice is no excuse for this owner. Most managers put the info in a computer to go over in a meeting to keep the owners happy. It's when working a deal that really counts. Hard to argue with this guy when he is selling1500 cars a month in small towns. Thanks for your. comment.

A handwritten log to track activities is a necessity: it is what allows for correction before major problems arise, and allows you to accurately predict outcomes and adjust for success. However, its accuracy for predicting results is dependent upon the accuracy of the data being provided.
Well to each it's own 1500 could be 2500 out of 11 stores I sure bet he has electronic inventory tool to find the vehicles that are available at each store though in case they need something special as well as an updated pre owned car inventory available 24/7 so what's so difficult with a crm tool the ownar can look at a full scale printout anytime he wants on his computer or have mgrs send it whaener he wants He can't be at 11 places at once right? Besides what does his Gm's and the director of his operations do? Just sayin

The reason the owner wants the desk log used is to make sure the deal is worked properly and make sure the customer talks to the manager. Some managers put this info in the computer after the customer has gone. It's to late to correct any thing at that time. Thank you Mr. Sedillos.

How can he look at 11 separate paper logs in 11 different locations?

Sounds like they need the stores to do it electronically so they can view it all on in one place on their smart phone or iPad during their busy day!

Matt he is not a computer guy and is an absentee owner most of the time. There are a lot of owners that aren't into computers but hire people to do the job. He doesn't look at 11 at one time.He just likes looking at the desk log to see what is going on that day if he wants to. I have to agree with him. A lot of managers put the information in after the customer is gone. Then it is to late to correct any problem. Thats why he requires a desk log. Thank you.

It seems to me that a double accountabilty system would enhance both applications. There are a lot of what if's so why not do both. If the crm is down how do you work? When something is written it creates a better focus. Keep the paper and use the crm. Different strokes for different folks.

Yes sir Craig. Nothing more important than the customer. Working the deal is just as important. Takes seconds to put a few check marks and a comment while working the deal. using 4 square or printing out numbers. If all the steps aren't completed it isn't time to work the deal. Desk logs help. When things slow down managers can put the info in the computer. Thats double work to some. How many ups do we get a day? Can we afford not to work the deal 100% correct every time. NO. Just another tool that works if used properly.Thank you Craig.

I agree but electronically is the best way you can sign with a vendor and have aevery possible piece of information to track customers from the minute they walk in till they purchase or not Mgrs have printouts and owners have printouts as well
