Tesla is an electric car company headquartered in Silicon Valley. They have a store in a shopping center at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, CA, where I went on Tuesday, right near the Macy's store. They currently have 2 models, the S and the Roadster. The S is the 4 door with a trunk that is hidden from view, but all accessible from the back seat, when lifted up in one piece with the glass and trunk with the look of a hatch, but the trunk privacy. The front has more storage for cargo. The price starts at $49,000. There are 3 ranges of charge. The roof is all glass moon roof. The navigation is more like an IPad in size. It seats five, with the rear seats folding forward with a 60/40 split. The battery is lower than most cars for ergonomic benefits. The Roadster was low seating position and basically a Honda S2000. It didn't feel that cramped at all. As a 2 seater, it didn't have the keyhole in either door, but it did for the trunk. The door handles are hidden above, right by the window. The backup camera is very low, just above the low license plate. There is only one windshield wiper on the front of the Roadster, but it has lots of coverage. Both cars have the electric plug on the left with one difference. The Roadster was in a higher spot, right where it's seen. The S has it hidden in the left rear taillight. They had 3 cars on display there. A Roadster, S, and the lower chassis of an S. There was some Tesla merchandise for sale, not that terribly expensive by luxury car standards.
I was impressed by both cars and Tesla will be a force to be reckoned with, despite being all electric and having run flat, sporty tires without the spare.
