If interviewing a potential salesperson you could only ask them ONLY ONE question, what would that ONE question be,why and what response would be acceptable to get hired?

During any selling process, the one question that the client thinks is the one I would ask. Why on earth with all the competition out there should I buy my car from you?
What does the term, "selling" mean to you? Afterall, do you "Want" to be sold on something?
and their acceptable reply to get hired would be?

This is where I become "judgemental". Sometimes, it's not the words. Remember, 55% of a persons "feelings" about someone comes from body language and only 7% are from the actual words. What do I want to hear? 1) Selling is exceeding a person's expectations. I want to find out what a client wants and needs. Not what I want and need. It is about taking that extra step. Ex: There was a concierge at a very famous hotel in San Francisco. He took pride in making sure everyone's needs were attended to. There was a regular client who liked a specific paper every morning with his breakfast and the concerige delivered. For some reason, that client had a falling out with a front desk person and chose to go to another hotel. When the concerige found out, the next time the client was in town, he went to that hotel, with paper in hand to personally deliver it when the client arrived. The client is now back. That little extra.

I would ask them "What is it that drives them to want to become a car salesperson?"

And the answer I would be looking for over and above wanting to make money, is their passion to want to assist people!
Survey's would tend to agree with you Nancy that MONEY is about 5th in the list of what people are looking for in a career.I like both the question and answer....that person gets hired.

Not sure I'm following you here Bob...so the one question would be what and the only acceptable answer to get that person hired, would be what?

Great question. My question would be this. Of all the qualified people here wanting this job what makes you stand out so much that we have to hire you today. This question will get a lot of your questions answered before you even have to ask. It won't take long to find out if they have drive, want to make big money, willing to work the hours and so on. Here is where they sell you on hiring them. Good one Craig.
Q. How many hours would you be willing to put into your new career to be truly Successful and reach your Financial goals?

A. As many as it takes!!
Whoa...those are both good!

Yes Sir, I MUST be sold during that interview if I am going to hire someone to sell for me.At times I can remember interviewing a person and if I "liked" them or felt "sorry" for them I would almost coax them thru the thing so I could hire them..........bad move!...They can't sell you they won't sell others!
