I would guess we all agree that salvation is by grace not works (Ephesians 2:8,9). How then do you understand Ephesians 2:10? Understanding this is critically important to your faith. What does 'works' in this verse mean to you and how is it manifested in your walk?

I believe the passage, in acknowledging that we are not "saved" by good works, is promoting the idea that the good works we do and will do are from the ability He has built into us to live daily in obeying the commands of God. Ultimately for His glory. I first do the work of God which is believing in His Son whom He has sent.

That's where I'll start and finish for now (cause i am at work) but this is an excellent question to ponder Jim. Thank You.
Very good! Doesn't 2:10 clarify 2:8,9? 2:10: "For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them." Doesn't this tell us clearly there is no free lunch, no free pass? 2:8,9: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so no one may boast." One can't read 2:8,9, take salvation for granted and be a do-nothing the rest of their lives. This is why Paul clarifies in 2:10 that we must work good works, be Christ-like examples to others in our lives, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, care for the sick, etc. We must do all these good works, yet, we cannot take Heaven for granted. In so many of His parables Jesus clarifies Himself on both the challenges of entering Heaven, and the works of grace of a disciple of His to be welcomed into Heaven. I constantly remind myself: "I am nothing but a work in progress!"
