R U a Noun or Verb Christian?

What is your faith like...is it a noun, a thing, or a verb, something in action to which others might point and remark there is something "different" about you.

 

This is not an academic exercise. There is nothing that Jesus preached or His apostles wrote about faith and following Christ that is not verb-oriented. Yes, faith itself is a noun, but as James says, faith without works is dead. Please do not read this to mean works = salvation. Scripture is very clear that salvation is by faith alone.

 

So, what do we mean by being a Verb Christian? Is it attending church or tithing or donating time and money to charity...or taking care of an elder relative? These are all good things we all should do, if presented with the opportunity. Church attendance by itself simply says the individual attends church -- it reveals nothing about their changed heart, their obedience to Christ's commands or their submission of their ego/themselves/stuff/TV/sport/business to God and to others (especially their spouse).

It is no coincidence (because there are none) that Satan tempted Jesus at his weakest hour of the flesh: forty days of fasting in the desert. I also notice that Jesus did not argue with Satan: that a principality for Jesus in exchange for the bend of His knee was beyond Satan's authority to give here. Again no coincidence. Satan only operates within the authority Father God gives him, which is latitude to tempt man and send his minions to torment man through the open doors of sin. Praise You LORD God for Your word and the sacrifice of Your blessed Son that I be forgiven of my sins.

My study this morning included one of my favorite verses to fight against Satan's temptations / attacks.

Philippians 4:8 - 9
"...whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me - put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

These 5 ways the Enemy seeks to steer us from God and demean our position as children of God may prove as helpful reminders to you as they are to me:

Satan’s Plan Against Us

Doubt: Makes you question God’s word and his goodness
Discouragement: Makes you look at your problems rather than at God
Diversion: Makes the wrong things seem attractive so that you will want them
more than the right things
Defeat: Makes you feel like a failure so that you don’t even try
Delay: Makes you put off doing something so that it never gets done

My father died a month ago and a friend sent me a card that is so meaningful that I want to share 2 parts of it with you:

No OCEAN can hold it back.
No river can OVERTAKE it.
No WHIRLWIND can go faster.
No Army can DEFEAT it. No law can stop it.
No distance can SLOW it.
No disease can cripple it.
No force on Earth is more POWERFUL or effective than the power of PRAYER.

Wow...what an AWESOME force it is!

Here's the 2nd part from the card. A great verse from Jeremiah 33:3 The Message
"Call to Me and I will answer you. I'll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own."

I know God blesses me by continually telling me things I could never figure out on my own. With Him, my life is MUCH richer (and smarter!).

This card really warms my heart.

The Holy Spirit is my constant Companion; He has continued to remind me that He is more than able to bring to remembrance all of the things that Christ said. This truly is an amazing life.
