R U a Noun or Verb Christian?

What is your faith like...is it a noun, a thing, or a verb, something in action to which others might point and remark there is something "different" about you.

This is not an academic exercise. There is nothing that Jesus preached or His apostles wrote about faith and following Christ that is not verb-oriented. Yes, faith itself is a noun, but as James says, faith without works is dead. Please do not read this to mean works = salvation. Scripture is very clear that salvation is by faith alone.

So, what do we mean by being a Verb Christian? Is it attending church or tithing or donating time and money to charity...or taking care of an elder relative? These are all good things we all should do, if presented with the opportunity. Church attendance by itself simply says the individual attends church -- it reveals nothing about their changed heart, their obedience to Christ's commands or their submission of their ego/themselves/stuff/TV/sport/business to God and to others (especially their spouse).

It is the Spirit in us (Romans 8:14-16) who cries out with in us "Abba"...even more intimate than Father, He is Daddy, Pa Pa. In other words as the Spirit confirms our adoption we are filled with the love of God and we cry out Abba....He chose us to be His children we need to approach Him as His children and rejoice in the fellowship He gives us and desired to give us since Adam....the walk each day in the cool of the garden is ours if we seek Him with child like faith....

Thanks Donna. I have to agree with you. If no one is listening, dust your shoes off and move on. I think the key to this is do we even start a conversation outside our comfort zone. I agree with pushing religion on someone is bad news as well. Thanks for sharing you thoughts.

Every saint on this forum is wonderful and I am so appreciative of your wisdom, knowledge and faith. Please, continue sharing stories of your victories, your growth toward submission and surrender to our Lord and stories of your abiding in Him. All of us need edification as to what the Holy Spirit is doing in His role of continuing our sanctification! God bless

Nicholas, I just read your response about addressing God as "Father." I have been teaching my son about prayer. One thing that I learned in that process was that Jesus' instruction to approach God as "Father" in the model prayer He gave His disciples was revolutionary. If you look at all the prayers recorded in the Old Testament, you will find that none of them address God as "Father." Jesus also paved the way for us to call God our Father by dying for us. He paid the ultimate price so that we could be called God's children. PTL!!!

Fran, I think you have to be led by the Spirit. I have been very open about my faith. I've quoted scripture on that Facebook F&I managers discussion group--I know you and others of us in this group participate in that forum. I'm an opportunist and tend to prefer erring on the side of sharing the gospel. But I also want to be sensitive to unbelievers. I might test the waters and mention something about going to church or come right out and say I'm a Christian if the conversation lends itself to that. Depending on the reaction, I might bring it up again or drop it. We have to love people and that means we don't pressure them to think our way and we entrust them to God in prayer. The general rule Jesus gave those He sent out in Luke 10 was that those who listen to us listen to Him. So if people stop listening, I stop talking. But if they're willing to listen I just keep right on going!

Great group here and I'am honored to be here. I mentioned on my blog Tuesday should GOD be mentioned in the work place or in training classes. Had a few comments. I think it is easy for us to talk about GOD in church or groups like this. It's when we are out of our element and talk about GOD that we get blessed even more. Just saying. Thanks for all insperation for me and others. Best of luck to all.

I love the verb great job of communicating what God put in your heart Tiffany...and Tom remember the Our Father is our worship Jesus paid the price to open the door to the Father but not just to Him but to address Him as OUR FATHER!! Also remember as all the inhabitants of Heaven our obedient to God our desire should be obedience as well, that is the part "Thy will be done" not my will....

Just perfect, Tiffany!  We pray these words in the 'Our Father': ..."Thy Will be done ON EARTH, AS IT IS IN HEAVEN!"  We know Heaven is all about the eternal worship of God.  We know in this prayer Jesus himself taught us that WE on earth can experience Heaven when we live our lives in never-ending worship of God.  Imagine everyone surrendering in worship to God!  What a wonderful world this would be!

Worship is not a noun or verb - it is a way of living your life. Praise God everyday , in the best of times and worst of times. God always knows the path for me.
