R U a Noun or Verb Christian?
What is your faith like...is it a noun, a thing, or a verb, something in action to which others might point and remark there is something "different" about you.
This is not an academic exercise. There is nothing that Jesus preached or His apostles wrote about faith and following Christ that is not verb-oriented. Yes, faith itself is a noun, but as James says, faith without works is dead. Please do not read this to mean works = salvation. Scripture is very clear that salvation is by faith alone.
So, what do we mean by being a Verb Christian? Is it attending church or tithing or donating time and money to charity...or taking care of an elder relative? These are all good things we all should do, if presented with the opportunity. Church attendance by itself simply says the individual attends church -- it reveals nothing about their changed heart, their obedience to Christ's commands or their submission of their ego/themselves/stuff/TV/sport/business to God and to others (especially their spouse).

Good morning everyone. I'm going through the book of Luke and was reading the Beattitudes in Ch 7 today and something struck me profoundly. If we are to "love" those who hate us, abuse us, speak wrongfully of us and use us, how then should we treat our wives, parents, friends and co workers? Of course the answer to this is also in scripture but it certainly struck a cord with me today! Just wanted to share. Hope everyone has a great day!

Sure, Joe. If we're struggling with thoughts of the past that continue to haunt us or we still feel shame, etc., or not experiencing blessings in our life after coming to Christ, is the reason those thoughts, sins, and wilderness continue because there's a big gap between us and our need -- need would be to be rid of guilt or a sin, etc...and we're filling the gap with anything BUT God. Too often we fill that gap or try to fix ourselves with worldly fixes, but often upon examination we will learn that the reason we are not living up to the blessings and fruit of the spirit promised is because we are not turning to God to fill this gap. In other words, are we practicing the basics -- daily reading of the word, continual prayer, communion in a fellowship of believers, trusting the Lord in our walk (going first to God with questions and concerns about choices, decisions, etc) or is God just something we "believe in" but don't trust in truth to really be there for us or to help us in this walk here. Take a look at I Timothy 4:8. My NKJV says, "For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that is now (my underline for emphasis) and of that which is to come." If we're not exercising godliness -- prayer, study, servanthood, obedience and discipline -- we are not putting God in this gap so we may enoy the "the promise of the life that is now." DId I clarify or muddy the waters further?

What fills the gap between you and your most pressing need(s). If God is not filling that gap, could that be why you still struggle with shame, guilt, feelings of inadequacy, sins that continue to haunt or a past that won't leave you alone?

Conducted first Q Group last night. Q for Question, is a way to bring nonChristians and dustry Christians together for discussion that leads to group questions like, If you could ask God one question and you knew he would answer you, what would you ask? Great discussion...and some deep questioning and wondering about is there a God, if so, where is he, and where is he during periods of darkness. This 80-something was teen in Poland during WW2 and witnessed much. Group agreed to meet again in two weeks.

Henry - Great story. Seek first the Kingdom of God and all things shall be added to you. When we believe Scripture as truth and meaningful today we can be blessed like this dealer. As my wife loves to say, you are either a noun Christian (name only) or a verb Christian, obedient to God and serving others.
