R U a Noun or Verb Christian?

What is your faith like...is it a noun, a thing, or a verb, something in action to which others might point and remark there is something "different" about you.

This is not an academic exercise. There is nothing that Jesus preached or His apostles wrote about faith and following Christ that is not verb-oriented. Yes, faith itself is a noun, but as James says, faith without works is dead. Please do not read this to mean works = salvation. Scripture is very clear that salvation is by faith alone.

So, what do we mean by being a Verb Christian? Is it attending church or tithing or donating time and money to charity...or taking care of an elder relative? These are all good things we all should do, if presented with the opportunity. Church attendance by itself simply says the individual attends church -- it reveals nothing about their changed heart, their obedience to Christ's commands or their submission of their ego/themselves/stuff/TV/sport/business to God and to others (especially their spouse).

Following Christ, in a nutshell, means denial of self (will, interest, desire, ego) and being willing to suffer the same abuse He did. In fact, this act of submission will mean we change so that our focus is to serve others, whether as leaders, husbands, neighbors and citizens. This is the narrow gate (die to self) that Jesus exhorts us to come through. Pleasant Labor Day Holiday to all!

Are we servant leaders? Or self-serving leaders? I just finished reading The Secret by Ken Blanchard and it talked about Servant Leadership. One of my trainers gave me the book Lead Like Jesus a couple of years ago and there are striking similarities in the two books. Being a Servant Leader is just good business.

Moving this from the main discussion wall as I am not sure anyone is seeing it there -- that or it's not generating any remarks...

Here is a question for which I am seeking your input. Do you set aside Sunday or any other day of the week for the Lord, i.e. the Sabbath where no work is done, etc.

We are considering setting Sunday aside for church, contemplation and study of Scripture, and in general practicing "Be still and know that I am God."

We are all busy -- and if we have weekends free (most of you probably won't, if you work in a dealership) isn't the struggle about how will chores and other activities get done if one day for that is set aside for God?

Are we being legalistic here? What is considered work, actually, regarding the Sabbath? Is travel OK...is mowing the lawn...visiting family? One make a case all of this could be legalism, but thinking instead the reason for this is honoring God in our hearts (I believe that if we are to honor in our heart what the body is permitted to do must be in harmony).

I am so blessed and amazed by how good God is. It is amazing
and I praise God for our obedience in serving Him and allowing His Holy
Spirit to work through our acts of kindness and love. "How beautiful are
the feet of those who bring good news". Praise God for what He is doing and may that encourage all of us to trust and serve Him more.

Just talked to the Guys at Peterson Toyota in Lumberton NC who pray every morning. They pray for others and not just for themself. They all prayed about training and me. I will be going back every other month for 20 months to complete our program.. We have two people selling 25 plus cars a month in only two of my trips down. Seems like GOD answered all our prayers in one single prayer meeting. Boy am I fired up. Yahoooo Want to do big numbers? Call me. I have the best person anyone could ever find helping and guiding me. Good luck to all.

That this forum is so active and has so many members brings me joy, and I am thrilled that believers in this industry can come here with questions, concerns, and observations about the truth and reality of God's Word in their daily lives. Was finishing up the Gospel of John in my readings this morning and Chapter 17, vs. 20-26 struck me -- this is the section where Jesus prays for all believers. Here is what I took from this: If Jesus can pray this about beleivers, can't I be this direct and presumptive in my own prayers with Father too? If we are a believer, who is our biggest cheerleader, who always has our back? Isn't it our Lord? "If God be for us, who can be against us." Let us go to prayer with purpose, with focus and with expectation that the Father hears us and if our requests are in line with His will, they will be done. James 4:16b- "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." God bless you all -- let us all speak up!

Vinnie,

Today the most common theme I find is that the man has taken the back seat as the Christian leader in the home. In your case you can start fresh and take control. Don't force things on her because you will both be taking this step together. Read the Word, be faithful in your attendance, tithe, and welcome her to pray with you and do couples studies together. "encouragement" is the key. As you change she will recognize and be attracted to the new you resulting in her faith being built. Stay strong and know that when you fail to ask for forgiveness to Jesus and your wife so she understands what is acceptable and what is not. Do this even if she witnessed it or not. She will realize you want to live a life of righteousness.

I would also suggest getting hooked up in a church that believes in the POWER of Christ so that she can experience the Living Christ and not the crucified one. Many times we keep Jesus on the cross and he is no longer there. He is alive and well. Get involved with a couples ministry and also get involved in serving or doing ministry like feeding homeless together.

That should be a really good start. Be blessed and be bold!
