R U a Noun or Verb Christian?

What is your faith like...is it a noun, a thing, or a verb, something in action to which others might point and remark there is something "different" about you.

This is not an academic exercise. There is nothing that Jesus preached or His apostles wrote about faith and following Christ that is not verb-oriented. Yes, faith itself is a noun, but as James says, faith without works is dead. Please do not read this to mean works = salvation. Scripture is very clear that salvation is by faith alone.

So, what do we mean by being a Verb Christian? Is it attending church or tithing or donating time and money to charity...or taking care of an elder relative? These are all good things we all should do, if presented with the opportunity. Church attendance by itself simply says the individual attends church -- it reveals nothing about their changed heart, their obedience to Christ's commands or their submission of their ego/themselves/stuff/TV/sport/business to God and to others (especially their spouse).

Today's post by Rick Warren from his Daily Hope message:
I have strength for all things in Christ who empowers me. I'm ready for anything and I'm equal to anything through Him who infuses inner strength into me. That is, I am self sufficient in Christ's sufficiency. Philippians 4:13 (Amp)

One of my favorite too, Sally. My most favorite is "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all things will be added unto you." As my wife had printed on a tee-shirt, "Less Me. More God"

I am quickly realizing I need to spend more time with this group. Sometimes the pressure of owning your own business gets in the way of spiritual growth.. My favorite scripture is "Be still and know that I am God" It is hard to find time for stillness. I teach yoga on the weekends and we benefit most from this stillness at the end of each practice. Thanks for the welcome Craig. Let's talk soon.

This was recently posted on another Christian group I am a part of and I thought I would share it with this group.....The answers to our prayers are always right in front of us, yet we miss them many times because we are not focussed on the day we are in with openess to what God offers us this very day. Let us all pray today that ours hearts will be open, with the peace of the Holy Spirit, to see all of the things that God has already provided for us. This is a wonderful daily habit to develop. God Bless Gary

That's a good question Jim. After refering back to that passage however, it reminded me that i need to slow down a pay more attention to the important things in my life rather than the urgent. Thanks for the post.

Question: How do you apply Luke 10:38-42 to your life and walk?

Rob Grant - thanks so much for the advice. I appreciate it. I am very familiar with the works of Piper and Sproul and also have several books by John MacArthur. I especially liked Piper's "Desiring God". Powerful yet very deep and i think I need to read it again. My biggest problem at this point in my life is not being connected with a local church. I need to work harder to find one. Thanks again and nice meeting you brother!

Rob, Sally - Thanks for your commnets! I started this forum believing there were many faithful believers working in the business and I have been pleasantly surprised at the growth of this group. Praise God! Praise Him for all we do, have and will have -- it is all His. If anyone reading this wonders where the power of Christ is in their life, I suggest that if you are indeed a believer (you have been saved) then look very hard at your willingness to be in submission to Christ. There can be no victory where we are half obedient. Complete surrender and total submission should be our goal, every day, as difficult as that can be. As my wife reminders everyone, Christianity is a verb not a noun. If you're faith is not what you thought or hoped it would or could be, how active are you in your faith -- daily time with the Word of God; prayer constantly, fellowship with other Bible-believing Christians, a mind like radar that looks for blips of sin in your life....let's work it!
