Let's "assume" you hire the right salesperson/employee etc.You train them,you try to motivate,inspire,encourage them,give them opportunity and tools.At what point do YOU "cut your loss,cut them loose and doesn't it seem it should have always been sooner?
In addition to that as a follow up,what can be learned or gained by an exit interview of that same person?

In reading your post one thing that the Auto Industry Management forgets is that performance is not just sales. Your Performance comprises many other factors: attitude, behavour,mentoring,building your client base, going the extra mile, being a team player and so forth.

Then why is it so hard to convince the "powers that be" that this is not the way to hire the right people. I have spent the last 8 years putting my opinion in whenever possible, to be told that no one is interested in my ideas. You have no idea how frustrating that is. I have a strong business and sales background, computer and CRM management and much more, but apparently that is not enough. I will continue to be opinionated if in the long run it helps the company. Sorry, just had to vent.

Tina....Those who do not listen to your ideas, input, good or bad... are the same people who will never....ever...be found on a forum like DE so consequently we find ourselves preaching to the choir a lot of the time.We take what may be an idea worth consideration that we have learned and it seems to fall on deaf ears. In many stores I swear you can present the greatest thing since sliced bread and never get any support from the other department heads. If it represents change that will not allow them to stay in the same routine,(requiring little or no thought to "maintain" )often they will have no part in it. If there is not total buy in at the top, forcing change then expect them to continue to support each other...or as I prefer to say, cover each others asses so as not to upset the status quo. Sooner or later a bulls eye will be painted on your back when you remain in a company like you describe. A dealership is complex. Moving forward takes a team. I have seen many folks come and go not because they were not good enough for the company but rather, the company was not good enough for them. When I see or learn of some one like you who is proactive and really interested in moving forward, I am always hopeful that their drive for excellence is not being wasted buy a store who can not respond.
