The Selfie That Broke Records

Unless you’ve been living in a box for the past couple weeks, you’d undoubtedly heard about the now infamous selfie taken by Ellen DeGeneres during the 2014 Academy Awards. Ellen DeGeneres, who hosted the show, took a moment to compose a selfie in the audience with the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, and Angelina Jolie, amongst others. She then proceeded to ask viewers to retweet it. The results were…

My challenge today.

As a trainer part of my job is as a motivator. There is a first time for everything that ever happens in your life.  Yesterday was a first time for me to really face someone that was losing hope in my classroom. As I spent my typical day working on Attitude I did not notice the struggling individual that was in the group. As a matter of fact I would not have picked this individual as someone struggling. It is amazing how well we can hide our feelings and attitudes when we do not want to be…

"Uh, Ummm, Let me Ask My Manager..." I Hate Internet Sales Part Four

Like I said in an earlier post, I was once what I now firmly disapprove of.  I was a young, happy kid who knew computers (at least as far as the management thought), I mean come on, kids these days!  I was a lucky one that was able to stick it out, and of course 10 years ago most internet sales managers didn't know much about selling to internet customers.  It was new even then.

Ten years later though, you have to be able to set yourself apart when it comes to selling to online…

Thoughts today

Oh, the gift of another day! What doors will open and close today? I am thankful for today, another day to accomplish, adventure, to  love, to learn and to witness miracles of compassion, and joy. Yes, I have expectations of good things. I read somewhere yesterday that we have to have thoughts, I just determined mine were going to be good ones.

Have a great attitude today!

They're Not Singing A Cappella

Your customers don’t sing a cappella-there is always music accompanying their lyrics, but we salespeople get so hung up and hell-bent on what the customer is saying that we miss the intent behind it. We get bogged down when a customer lyrically demands our rock bottom price, to only have their trade appraised, to not demo…

Sales Events - Tried, Tested and Proven

There are a lot of new ideas out there about how to connect with consumers, everything from using Twitter and Facebook to closed circuit TV channels for your waiting room. Many of these are good ideas, and in a world where everyone is searching for the latest thing to help them market to consumers, sales events might seem boring and old-fashioned. Sometimes, however, boring and old-fashioned means tried, tested and…

Management, Service & Automotive Sales Training: Bringing Value

"You don't get paid for the hour.  You get paid for the value you bring to the hour.”

~ Jim Rohn

Recently, I had a day in which the time seemed to sit still.  I glanced at the clock for the tenth time and it was only 1:30pm.  How could this be?  I felt like…

Spring Is Alive And Well

Here is this week's Used Car Market Report from Ricky Beggs, Editorial Director of Black Book. Everywhere I turned this past week I was being told of 70% to 80% sales conversions definitely indicating a booming market. One buyer even said the opening bid was many times higher than his planned top bid. And the actual…

How do you define success?

How do you know you made it? You know, your successful? How do you know? Is there a real way to tell that you made it? Is it driving a big Mercedes Benz or a bigger house. I strongly desire to be successful. Some people say that I am already there. As for me, not so sure. So sometimes that question comes to mind. Zig Z says it means "doing the best we can with what we have"? How do you define success? Well to me it is not a bigger car, house or material things. In part it could be having the…

Website Chat Should Shoot for Quality First, Quantity Second

There's a disturbing trend I'm seeing in the automotive industry when I visit websites. Perhaps it's been like this for a while and I simply took my eye off the chat ball. When I see chat windows that instantly prompt for the customer's contact information, it makes me cry a little inside.

This isn't what chat is supposed to be about. I'd love to have that…

Automotive Advertising Agencies Begrudgingly Shift To Social Marketing

Automotive advertising agencies must constantly reinvent themselves to keep up with consumer preferences. When customers discovered the internet automotive advertising agencies were forced to follow them online.  New tools like web sites, conversion applications to capture customer information, banner ads and S.E.O./S.E.M. strategies were developed to replace radio, T.V., and print production services. …

Take time...

There is nothing wrong with down time. Funny that this is something that I struggle with, with so many goals and so little time.  It is unhealthy to run 110 miles per hour everyday 7 days a week. Something has to give, someone is going to cry "Uncle".  So remember to take care of yourself, take some time to be down and recharge. Vacations, days off just to get away.  If not over time you will find that your productivity may drop and you may become less effective.
