I revisited the Dataium study that was commissioned by Cars.com:
"Despite an average of 55 percent of dealerships’ online advertising budgets being devoted to paid search engine marketing, just 6 percent of dealership website traffic on average is referred by paid search keywords. Furthermore, less than 1 percent of this traffic resulted in email form leads submitted on dealership websites."
Add all of a dealerships internet related expenses:…

There’s just no excuse for car dealers to not be on Pinterest. Some would say it’s worthless. Some would say it’s hard to understand. Some might even say that it’s a fad. They might all be valid arguments under normal circumstances, but there’s on thing that trumps them all.
It takes no time, almost literally. You can maintain a very strong, daily-updated Pinterest presence…
ContinueWhen it comes to social media advice, the majority of the common catch phrases are there for a reason. Tips like “be engaging” and “communicate, don’t broadcast” are sound pieces of advice despite the annoying frequency that they’re used by gurus. There’s one common tip that is more than just annoying. In many ways, it’s actually wrong.…

This is one reason that you need qualified personnel in your Special Finance Department. Your personnel must have an in-depth and thorough knowledge of the entire operation of the Special Finance Department.

When Google+ first rolled out their change, we called it “Twitteresque“. After exploring it further for the last couple of weeks, we believe that it’s actually better than Pinterest in many ways… and worse.
One of the ways that it’s definitely better…

“Big doors swing on small hinges.” Small things can make a big difference in your sales process. There has been a lot written recently about what I term the “moment of truth” in the sales process. I don’t believe that a sale usually occurs because of one “big bang moment.” Usually, a sale occurs because of a series of very small and simple things that add up to being the difference maker.
If you are looking for 50 closes to take your sales to the next level, you are missing…

Stop the madness! I, unfortunately, might be part of the cause of the recent trends happening on dealer Twitter profiles and for that, I am truly sorry.
For years, I've been harping on the concept that Twitter is something that no dealer should avoid because of how quick and easy it is. There's no huge investment of time required to have a strong Twitter presence. This advice and the…

Employees will treat your customers EXACTLY the way you treat them. If your employees are well cared for, they will focus on being good to your customers.
This is why, according to Shep Hyken, the secret to building a customer service culture is not to start focusing on customers, but rather employees. He says that great companies "hire the right people to fit into the culture. They train them both technically and on how to…

If someone asked me for a single piece of advice about blogging, it wouldn’t be a standard answer like “post regularly” or “know your audience”. It wouldn’t be to “find a niche” or “add keywords to your title”. These are all good pieces of advice and are almost always in the mix in “X Top Tips for Blogging” posts that pop up every couple of weeks…

Often times when I chat with dealers I ask dealers what is keeping them, from getting to the next level of super success I hear responses like:
We need more quality leads.
Or... Cars are bringing brain damage at the sale.
Or... It's hard to find real salespeople anymore man, they just don't breed them like us, you know what I mean?
My answer to these issues are yes, yes and yes...so what. You have to control the…

I think it’s safe to say we won’t be getting any more snow for a while in Minnesota (I say that with 51% certainty). Since I’ve finally thawed out after the nastiest winter I’ve had in years, I decided to make the most out of the good weather and bought a bike. There’s a bike path near my house that goes all the way to downtown Minneapolis.
It’s been a long time since I rode, and I’ve disliked cyclists for quite a while. They’re always hogging the road, wearing outfits…

We all have listened to the untrained sales professional or Internet Coordinator spend half an hour selling the car to a customer over the phone; and the worst part about it is once he/she gives away all the info the majority of the time you never see the customer show up that he/she was talking to. The sales professional or Internet Coordinator of today must have a…
