The Digital Divide - It's not what you think it is

“Communication with you customers has never been easier…and yet your customers have never been further away.”

For some time now I have been thinking and battling it out with several blog opponents on…

Power Words

I have a post it note on my television.

I have a post it note on my bathroom cabinet.

I have a post it note on the car dashboard.

....in my purse.

It simply says…

On Activation Engergy

I wish I could take credit for this, but I can't.

You know those days where you plan on getting up nice and early and taking a run in the park, the alarm goes off, and you think to yourself "Yeah, not going."

That same day you come home and you see the television remote in front of you and you think "Yeah, this is more like it".

Other than the relaxation factor, why is getting up and doing something productive harder than doing something non-productive?…

The credibility of the Australian retail motor trade is at an all time low it seems. But why?

According to the findings of the annual ‘Trust Survey’ 2010 carried out by Reader’s Digest Australia, the car sales sector was rated less trustworthy than the oldest ‘profession’ in a poll that asked respondents to rank forty professions in order of perceived…

I recently pointed…

Flushing Your Olympic Marketing Down the Drain of Bad Processes

The OEMs and the vendor/consultant marketplace are more and more teaching dealers all about modern marketing, and I get why:  Generating good traffic these days requires lots more than a newspaper, radio, or TV ad.  We’re all being shopped on the Internet by customers, and we need to be there, and be there strong, in order to win sales.

And, so, if we train and execute…

5 Steps To Establishing A Dealership Wide Blog

Before I get into what this blog is about I think it might be better to tell you what this blog isn't. First, I won't be discussing why you should be blogging, I'll take the fact that you are reading this as a sign that you already know you should. Second, it won't be a technical how -to-manual of setting up and maintaining blogging software. In this post…

No Time To Do It Right

I feel fortunate to see so many different dealerships and how they do business. One of the things I hear often is the staff doesn’t have the time to perform processes correctly. The reality is without the right processes so much time is wasted with no way to place the cost of doing business that way. The advisers scramble to put out the latest fire pulling a technician off this job to work on that job. They feel the battle of their job is to act…

Disgruntled Service Personnel Need A Take

You know people are getting "fed up" when you have top personnel (like a Superstar Service Advisor) give notice from seemingly out of nowhere or Customer complaints suddenly increase overnight or accidents start happening.

These are all signs that something is amiss.

You need to have a "Take."

Take a Moment and begin by opening the door of two-way communications… Continue

August 1959!

Like many small, hometown dealerships Matt Saxe Chevrolet in Belle Plaine, MN, he has a wall dedicated to the pictures of the dealership over the last century!  I love looking back at the old pictures, seeing how the towns have changed, the people in the pictures, the pride of the local car dealer... but one picture in particular caught my eye.  The date on the picture was August 1959.  It showed the dealership proudly displaying 8 beautiful Chevrolets outside and a large sign that said…

Social Media... You have known it all along.

Oh yes.  That scary world of social media.  How do I do it?  Seems like free advertising.... hmmm.  I can just set it up and let it go, right?

There really are no questions about social media that you have not already answered sometime in your career.  Social media is just an online version of what any successful business operator or salesperson has done for years.

Think about what you may have done with the Lions Club, Optimist Club, Boys and Girls Club, your church, your…

Second best is as good as second to last!!

We all have our dreams and goals. Sometimes they are a long way out of sight and we know, deep inside, it's going to take a long time to get there. So perhaps it's best to settle for something that's less than perfect rather than struggling for something that may be unattainable? Yes, we all think this way at times but It implies failure: a weakness on one's part to achieve some aspiration.

Never settle for second best when the BEST is out there waiting. Keep this in mind when hiring… Continue

Why Pavlov should be your Internet Manager to hire and to nurture...

Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov famously tantalized his dogs by ringing a bell to alert them that food was about to be served. The dogs, soon wise enough to associate the sound of a tinkling bell with a big juicy steak, began to salivate each time the bell tolled.

This associated behavior is known as “classical conditioning,” and the parallel between the doghouse and the dealership cannot be clearer. Obviously, the incoming…
