This True car deal is no different than the guy down the street advertising at cost or below. It's no different than when the internet came out and people were worried everyone will come in with the cost of a car. This simply is not the case. One thing will remain the same. The best trained sales force can overcome anything. What's your thoughts?

Fran, I appreciate you moving this debate along to the next relevant topic. You are absolutely correct that Truecar isn't the real issue. We can all work diligently to defeat Truecar and we may or may not succeed but I can guarantee that there is another Internet company developing a similar product that won't make the same foolish mistakes. Truecar has made the blueprint and all of the missteps that will make it a layup for the next entrepreneur. It will be interesting to see if dealers try to get ahead of the curve. One price dealers got smacked pretty hard up here in the Northeast but I have seen a few start to pop up again in recent months.
Thanks Stan for your phone call to me and mentioning this. Disagreeing professionally is not only ways for us to learn but the right way to communicate. This True Car deal is a real chess match with dealers as usual. The dealers that use it are going to have to perfect it. The dealers that don't are going to find ways to make it work for them. Either way the ones who change and learn new ways to do things will be in business for a long time.
@Fran Great job on your blog! You created a lively debate. I hope you have a great holiday season! After speaking to you I always feel better! Stay positive!
@Charles I think the trainers are concerned about a company that wants to eliminate the salesman they train. I do not see anything negative about that. You just seem to be a little condecending thats all. I am sure you are good at what you do. I think everyone here is good at what they do. I am here to try to learn something thats all. Every time you guys get into a pissing match in my opinion you lose credibility in the industry.
For now, we need to sell around the threat, and Fran is 100% spot on to that. And I love him for that. However, if you want to understand Scott Painter/TrueCar's vision for your future, go look into getting a job as a travel agent. You can't. Do you want the same future for car salespeople, er, I mean YOU? For vendors: Who will you train? The porter? Who will sell marketing to? Your CRMs won't be useful to help the nonexistent salespeople! Etc. WAKE UP!

Where do these fruitcakes come from? I'll let my friends feast on you, I must run for today.
@ All: Painter has $200million rolling towards a billion dollars that says "Sales with no sales staff" Can we get our minds around that threat? http://www.autonews.com/article/20110829/RETAIL07/308299963#ixzz1gj...
@ All: I put the recording of my call with Scott Painter that I had today (he consented to the recording) up on the blog http://www.dealerelite.net/profiles/blogs/mr-painter-tear-down-this....
Have you been sniffing too much airplane glue son? Have you even done any research on this topic? Have you ever sold an automobile before? What exactly is it you do? I did a little research on you and all I could find was Grant Cardone propaganda material posted all over your Facebook and Google+ pages. Coming here and insulting people who have years of experience in the automotive industry is not the brightest of moves. Did TrueCar hire you as a third party provoker?
@ Fran: People who sold travel packages and travel agents felt the same way before Expedia.com forever changed their industry. We are on the brink of that with TrueCar. It's not leads or customers, it's bullets--and I don't mean good credit . . .
