Nissan Engineers Build Innovative Concepts.
The Nissan Engineers needed the efficiency of the Leaf with the effectiveness of the Frontier so Arnold Moulinet, a Nissan Engineer spend months drawing up designs for their UTE concept. The Nissan Engineers built Sparky, a Leaf-Frontier Combination that has become their parts hauler that draws lots of attention anywhere that it goes!
Now, the Leaf is a highly capable, thoroughly funky EV that we love. And it makes a surprisingly attractive, if somewhat stunted, pickup truck. The team kept the drivetrain as-is, chopped off the roof and added the top from a Titan pickup and the (shortened) bed from a Frontier. Cool details include wood bed slats, sharp wheels and the Leaf’s rounded rear. It all comes together in a thoroughly futuristic riff on the venerable pickup. - From Wired Magazine
Original a Secret for the Stanfield, Arizona Nissan Proving Grounds and Tech Center but with so many visitors, this unique UTE Concept was bound to be captured. I am still amazed by how well the body was made to work with the pickup bed. Check out the Nissan Leaf-Frontier Cross Concept on Kingston Nissan's blog.
Is this the Future? Small Electric UTE Car-Pickups?
Without a doubt, I believe that small electric cars that are designed to serve more than one purposes like the UTE Concept, could very well become a parts hauler for any automotive parts distributor across the U.S. from Autozone to Advanced Auto to Pep Boys to any other company! No need for them waste fuel and spend more purchasing a pickup when they can have their UTE Leaf-Frontier plugged in charging when not in use.
