Newsletter December 2012
Are You Willing To Change?
This month’s newsletter is different in that it will relate to your everyday life including life at the dealership. Many people use this time of year to set resolutions for improvement in next year’s results. My personal viewpoint is that without a firm commitment to change no resolution will be achieved.
Become a Change Master
I’ve heard it said many times one thing certain about the car business is that it will always be changing. That is also true with our everyday life relationships with family, friends, and coworkers. If you accept as fact that change is an essential part of life and challenge yourself to be consistently looking for ways to improve, you should become a change Master. You might ask yourself what is a change Master and how do I become one? A change master is someone that is not intimidated by change and instead embraces it! The change master looks for ways to improve and then goes about doing it. The change master understands there will be bumps along the way and even change will require adjustments. The change master refuses to compromise and is committed to achieve the desired result. For instance if you desire to quit smoking ask yourself what action is required? Although you think the action is evident you just quit smoking it is more complicated than that. Do you quit smoking all at once gradually reduce your habit until quitting becomes easier? Do you include your doctor in the planning or even tell your friends about quitting your habit? You might hesitate informing others of your desire to quit smoking just in case you fail. You might believe keeping it a secret is the best practice preparing yourself to fail. If I don’t quit smoking then I won’t have questions or comments about my failure. The change master says I am all in and tells everybody around them of their plan to change and prosper in whatever they choose to tackle. The change master doesn’t fear failure instead embraces the challenge of change knowing that solid improvements will come out of that effort. They refuse to compromise and say smoke just on cigarette I’ve done really well so far and one won’t hurt me. You see if you look at studies that are been performed on New Year’s resolutions that have been successful the odds are stacked against you. In the dealership world you might say I know the walk around inspection process is correct and I will do them every time I have time. I promise you that the program won’t be successful and before long your team won’t complete any walk around inspections. The change master starts with two simple words that ensure against the odds they will overcome the obstacles and achieve their desired result. The magic two words are simple “I WILL” quit smoking no matter what on January 1, 2013 and will never ever again smoke a cigarette for any excuse cause or reason. I challenge you is your setting your goals for 2013 and commit to New Year’s resolutions that you began with those same two words to help you prosper “I WILL”.
Accountability for Change
Accountability is a must when you are considering change or improvement. You should include friends, family and coworkers and ask for them to make you accountable as you reach to implement your change. Don’t fear failures instead reach for your success with commitment and refuse to compromise your effort! One reason are program works so well with dealerships is accountability to the staff that they know we’re becoming back in and will be reviewing their progress. The same I feel is true with weight watchers where committed people weigh themselves every week in front of their peers reviewing their progress. Do they have weeks their weight actually increased? You bet and they also have times they fall short and eat foods they should not. The also eat less during the week knowing they will have the weigh in. But the change master understands to reach over any short term failure and remain committed to the change.
