Automotive Internet Sales Interviews TrueCar & Responds To Joe Webb & Brian Pasch...
It seems that there was a negative post about TrueCar recently, http://www.dealerknows.com/is-this-the-beginning-of-the-end-for-tru... Joe Webb of Dealer Knows published the post and then a lot of people in the industry started to jump on the band wagon of the negativity. One of those people was Brian Pasch of PCG.
I have a problem about what was said and the people saying it. Especially when TrueCar is the TITLE sponsor for AutoCon... How can you tell dealers that they are great and good enough to be a title sponsor and then say they are wrong or bad out of the other side of your mouth...
So, I wanted to set the record straight. The first part of this video is ME and MY opinion of the situation. And the second part (the majority) of the video is the ACTUAL GoTo Meeting interview with Ken Potter, VP Of Dealer Development & Mike Timmons, Executive VP of TrueCar. Automotive Internet Sales.cm had the opportunity to sit with TrueCar and get their feedback and official position on the situation.
I normally DO NOT get involved in these situations BUT... Ken Potter has been a friend for over 12 years now and I do not like people attacking him unfairly. He is an integrity based individual. And I do not feel that TrueCar is doing ANYTHING wrong with their policy for "Write Offs" on their leads...

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one, Sean, because I think you are way on the wrong side of this one. Please send me the link to the post Brian made because I can't find one and I think you're jusy taling Joe wrong, as I tried to point out.
Sometimes these squabbles remind me of the new Ford Fusion commercials. You know the ones....or instead of and. Its like its wrong to think we can have 3rd party vendors that make a profit AND respect the dealer. We need to concentrate on ways vendors can work together with their dealer/PARTNERS to find a way to benefit all.
I appreciate your thoughts Alan, I do... but we agree to disagree. As for Brian, as I mentioned in the video, I think he is very smart, but is wrong n this issue. Not sure if you are aware, But...Brian Pasch sponsored a negative post against TrueCar. My point is that if you are going to take time out of your day, sponsor a post to gain maximum visibility AGAINST your title sponsor... that says something. If you felt that strongly against them, let them know that they can NOT represent your AutoCon conference. It sends mixed messages to your dealers. Also, my point of my video was me simply disagreeing with people... Joe, Brian, You anyone saying that and I quote "IS this the end of TrueCar". Seriously...? The company has 6,500 dealers. because they did not roll out their "write off" policy they are someone on the brink of extinction? My point is that this industry allows people to run off half cocked and say crazy things... and other people, less informed of the original people jump on the bandwagon perpetuate the negativity, perpetuate the drama. And even take it to another level. I personally talked to Ken Potter and he said he took offense to people calling hIm a scumbag! As do I!
I appreciate you and EVERY single Automotive Professional. I really mean that. I am simply stating my opinion on this matter, which I truly believe to be 100% accurate.
Furthermore, we both know that there are people in this industry that are NOT qualified but are running around giving their opinions, distorting information and slandering people. And Social Media has given them relevancy, people BELIEVE what they see online... It is not good for business-
Sean,
I am a member of the Alpha Dawg tribe and expressed my opinion on Jim's posts during the last dust up a year and a half ago or so and also expressed my opinion on Joe's post this time. I respect Ken Potter but, hoestly, I still don't trust Scott Painter.
You make some valid points but I think you missed one or two and ignored a couple, as well. First, I'm sure, and you should have known, that the deal for TrueCar to be the title sponsor for AutoCON happened long before this issue came to light. Using that as a way to question Brian's stance is, frankly, beneath you.
I also think that one of Joe's main points was the method by which this new policy was announced. One of the issues previously was their transparency and this new policy certainly wasn't put out there veru early by TrueCar for discussion and questions before it happened. There has been some misleading and incorrect information put out there over what write-offs would be allowed and which ones would no longer be approved but I don't believe Joe or Brian had anything to do with that.
Does TrueCar have the write to set their own write-off policy? Absolutley!
Could they have done a better job communicating with their dealer partners? Also absolutely!
Thank you for speaking with them and getting answers to many dealers question. My point (and I think Joe's) is that you shouldn't have had to. If TrueCar respected their dealer partners like they claim to, dealers would have known all about this much earlier.
