SPRING -- As a boy, Rob Kuentz looked up to his dad. He even dressed like him and dreamed of one day working at a car dealership.
“I have pictures of him everywhere he went,” said his mother, Sandy Kuentz. “He had to have that tie on because he was going to sell cars.”
By 30, Kuentz was a supervisor at a Mac Haik dealership. He married his high school sweetheart, Heather, and had a son named Brady.
“He was the best guy in the world, he would do anything for anybody,” Heather Kuentz said. “He loved his son more than anything.”
It makes what happened in late November so difficult to understand.
Kuentz had argued with 49-year-old Keith Grimmett, a salesman, over his performance. The next day Grimmett came back to the dealership with a gun and allegedly shot Kuentz in the neck.
“I think he’s a coward,” Sandy Kuentz said. “I think he should of as a man been face to face with my son and told him there was a problem.”
Kuentz later died at the hospital.
Grimmett was arrested after calling police. Prosecutors have charged him with murder.
But now, despite that charge, the family has learned he could walk out of jail. Grimmett has a bond hearing scheduled on February 26.
Relatives do not think that is right.
“I was in shock, I couldn’t think,” Heather Kuentz said.
“If it was possible for the death penalty, I’d be all for it,” said Jason Felps, Kuentz’s brother.
Murder is a first degree felony and can lead to a life sentence in prison.
If Grimmett was charged with capital murder, he would not be eligible for bond and could have ultimately faced the death penalty.

Thank You Bobby and dealerElite members!
The latest update: Talked to Robert Kuentz's father Larry Kuentz 11/30/2012, his dad said things are not looking to good. Please pray for him and his family.
Robert was on life support.
I wish the best for the manager along with his family .
My very sincere hope to all recovery
My heart and prayers certainly go out to Robert Kuentz and his whole family for a speedy recovery and PTSD counseling. My heart and prayers also go out to Keith Grimmett and his family over the grief and guilt that will plague them!
I hope that we all embrace the idea that we are in very desparate times and a time of uncertainty!
In house counseling and interpersonal development in my opinion must be indoctrinated into the workplace.
People are becoming more frustrated and stressed over money and self will. We all know the truth deep within that we can do nothing ALONE! Reach out before we lash out!
@ Michael, I think you mean the victim Robert Kuentz and not perpetrator Keith Grimmett?
It is always a tragedy when violence becomes the answer for some difficulty or dissagreement. Our prayers for Keith for his speedy recovery and Gods Blessings to Keith and family .
Thanks for the update Manny!!
Here is the latest update.
HOUSTON – Police have arrested a suspect in the Friday morning shooting of a Mac Haik Chevrolet manager.
Keith Edward Grimmett, 49, faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigators say Grimmett shot his boss around 9:30 a.m. at the dealership in the 11700 block of the Katy Freeway.
Witnesses told police the two men had an argument, and then got into a scuffle. That’s when Grimmett allegedly shot 30-year-old Robert Kuentz.
The victim was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck. He was last reported in critical condition.
Co-workers say Kuentz is married and has a small child. One employee described him as a "great guy."
"Everything is going to be all right. Just know that," said Andriko Gibson, an employee who saw the shooting.
Gibson and two other witnesses were interviewed by police at the scene. Some employees told investigators that Kuentz and Grimmett had a history of arguing.
Grimmett hadn’t worked at the dealership for very long.
He fled after the shooting, but police say he called them Friday afternoon and agreed to surrender. Grimmett has no prior criminal record in Harris County.
