Building A Good Reputation As A Used Car Dealer

We have all herd the stereotype of the used car salesman. Now that we live in the information age the attitude of just slinging out junk cars all day and surviving as a car dealer in the long run is pretty much a thing of the past.

So, what’s the best approach to selling used cars and doing so indefinitely? The answer is really like any other business. Work with integrity and honesty and deliver a quality product that you can stand behind. At Texas Cars & Autos that is exactly what we strive for. Noted that when you sell used cars you can only do so much to ensure the quality of a vehicle but the idea is to find the best cars at auction or wherever you may acquire them and fix any known issues as well as disclose anything that the customer should know about a vehicle they are looking at.

Integrity
Integrity is important in the used car business and no matter how big or small of a car lot you have its something that should always be in mind. Do not be deceptive but rather stand behind what you say and sell which makes vetting your inventory important. Of course, if your selling $3000 used cars they will have high mileage on them and be older and may also not be pristine but a car that still has some life left in it. Cheap cars are just that and you can still sell them with integrity by letting the buyer know what they are getting into.

Honesty
Honesty is a big one that will keep you out of trouble with buyers. Nowadays its very easy for a buyer to ruin your reputation online by leaving bad reviews and warning others not to deal with your lot, so it’s best to build good will by being honest with them when they purchase a vehicle that has anything going on with it that you know about that has not been fixed. Best idea being all known issues are fixed so you can honestly sell the car in good working order but small things like maybe a broken door handle or rickety trunk latch small stuff that isn’t going to stop the car from delivering on being solid but are more of a nuisance. Just remember people are more motivated to leave you a review that is negative then the positive ones so you have to earn positive reviews by delivering on your word by being an honest used car lot.

Product quality
Product quality makes everything easier. Depending on your niche this maybe harder to do in the sense that if your clients are looking for a car that is in the $3000 to $5000 range then it’s going to be tougher to deliver a completely trouble free product or rather one that will stay that way just because you will be selling cars that are 8-10 years plus old and have high mileage on them for the most part. So, while the car may still be solid when you sell it, it’s easier for an older car to start having issues that will put some clients off and make them feel duped. As an automotive dealer, you should always caution and let people know “Hey this car has some mileage on it and we have checked it over and there are no known issues but please understand its older and anything can go wrong with older cars that have high mileage on them.” We think the best idea is to keep a mix of vehicles that vary in price range so you can cater to most buyers and do so in many price points.

Reputation is more important than ever with the information age we live in its just good business to do the right thing and do right by your customers.
