CAR BUSINESS = PEOPLE AND PERCENTAGES!

(Sure automobiles have something to do with it, but why get technical?) The message that I am trying to convey in this discussion is simplicity. As I read and partake in so many of these dialogues, I find we get so caught up in the razzle dazzle of the technological world and the various extended facets that brings to our operation, that we sometimes stray from the basic formula...Car Business = People and Percentages.

"Nothing but Net" is a group formed to discuss ways to enhance the bottom line. That being said, every business decision we make on a day to day business: distribution of our advertising budget, how we structure our internet department and BDC, what we stock, who we hire, how we train, how we comply, how we pay..all these business choices affect our bottom line directly! However, the two basic rules will always apply: If we have the right people in place and we maintain our expense structure, monitoring ratios of expenses to sales/gross, we will be winners! Everything else is truly important but falls somewhere under the two major factors: People and Percentages!

So I ask you...How often do you sit down with your key people, department heads and management staff and really dissect the financial statement? This operating report outlining strengths and weaknesses is a road map directing you to opportunities and it is found right at your finger tips. If you have management who have not yet been exposed to the financial statement or are intimidated by it due to lack of training, GET THE TRAINED!!!
