Conditions Got You Here Not Circumstances

"Circumstances don't make the man, they merely reveal him." James Allen
Wrongfully, we blame our circumstances for the reason why we're  not having a good day, month, marriage, or life, but circumstances are the end result- it was your conditions that started it all. You don't suddenly go bankrupt, it was the day to day conditions of deciding whether to live for today or save for tomorrow. You didn't suddenly have a heart attack, it was the conditions of eating the wrong foods and not exercising over an extended period of time that caused the blockage. And you didn't have a bad month simply because F&I wasn't  able to get your full sticker deal financed, the rebates suck, nor the fact that your manager didn't have the dark red SUV equipped with the accident avoidance system in stock- you conditioned yourself to have a bad month, quarter, and career long before that.
You conditioned yourself to get advice from mediocre salespeople...
You conditioned yourself to go to lunch for 2 hours...
You conditioned yourself to ask customers limiting-"let me see if they're worth my time," kinds questions...
You conditioned yourself to not push when you didn't "feel" like working today
You conditioned yourself to see how much you could get instead of give...
You conditioned yourself to drift along while at work-waiting for the perfect Up to fall in your lap, instead of pushing to create your own opportunities-now you have to work bell to bell and give up your days off to pull out a month...
You conditioned yourself to stop studying, becoming a Know-it-all instead of a No-at-all because it's not what you know that matters it's what you don't know that counts...
You conditioned yourself to resist management-they only want to challenge you to become better, but you resist them and stay bitter...
You conditioned yourself to allow circumstances and rejection to harden you, when instead you should've learned to grow from the setbacks-fighting to remain pliable and flexible.
You conditioned yourself to deviate from a proven process of qualifying, presenting, writing up, convincing, and turning over every customer.
It was your conditions that have shaped you to who you are today-your circumstances merely revealed them.  If you want better circumstances, change your conditions. You have complete control over that.
I'll see you next time on the Blacktop.
