Customers Hate Haggling - No Surprise There.

Great article recently published in The Car Connection: "Car Customers Hate Haggling More Than Anything." It might seem obvious, but sometimes dealerships can get caught up in the sales game, and forget that customers are so disinclined to participate. Getting a great price for the customer while also turning a profit for the company is a high priority (and rightly so) but a new survey found that the one thing customers hate above all else is negotiating the price of their new ride.

Dealerships are combatting this reticence by highlighting "hassle-free" buying experiences and up-front prices. This is particularly important since potential buyers have most likely already done their homework before hitting your show floor.

To sum it up:

"The results were pretty clear. Doing research was favored by a whopping 66% of respondents, while taking test-drives came in a distant second, with just 15% of the vote. A very curious 11% said they enjoyed securing financing, and just 8% liked haggling over the vehicle's price." -The Car Connection

So how do you think your customers' experiences have been at the dealership you represent? If you've bought a car recently, how was YOUR experience? Just a good reminder to keep being honest with our customers even as we work to create innovative marketing strategies and tools to draw buyers in.

Car Connection headlines want to grab readers so that's a good headline.  Surveys have also shown that people don't like to get shot, robbed or mugged.  And what is it that we are doing to stop that?

They should also do a follow up survey and ask dealers who are or who have offered ONE PRICE policies and see how  many auto shoppers wanted to haggle over the posted ONE PRICE on the vehicle.

Because our industry is unique in that we take trade-ins it is near to impossible to have the haggling disappear  anytime soon.  A hassle free buying process doesn't mean there is no negotiation, but that the process is more transparent and fair to both parties.

And that's all I have to say about that.
