Newcomers to the sales team may often be steered off course by negative salespeople who perhaps are jaded from their many unsuccessful attempts in the field or their experiences with former management procedures. As a manager, you need to embrace every new person as a chance to better the team. In doing this, you must protect your garden as “every garden will be invaded.” Put your organization’s best foot forward by truly supporting your new member in these ways:
- Analyze the impact other employees have on the new person’s perception
- Develop a plan for frequent monitoring
- Guide their perception of this career opportunity
- Build their morale
“You must pull the weeds out early, before they take root, because they are always easier to pull in the earlier stages.”
Make sure the “garden invaders” are not disrupting your mission of building the ultimate team. Right the sails for this newcomer before one steers too far off course.
