How much does a credit score really matter?

Credit Scores effect everyones daily life in many ways. It certainly can effect ones quality of life. A credit score will determine how much you pay for important purchases. If your credit score is low you will pay more for the same goods and services that someone with high credit scores pays. One of my clients owned 4 vehicles. His insurance went up $100.00 per month suddenly. It was apparent an error on his credit report was the cause. His insurance company had started using the credit report as a gauge of risk. He had one negative item on his report. Six years prior he had been offered an in- house merchant credit card that allowed him a discount on some tires. He took the card made the purchase and went back in a week and paid off the purchase at the store. 6 months later he received a collection letter from the credit card company. He contacted the store and they said they would take care of it. He checked his credit report over the next few years and it remained on the report. He had ask several times for it to be removed and it wasn't. We taught him the right way to dispute the item and within a few weeks it was removed. His auto insurance went back down. This one simple letter written to the right people the right way saved him $1200.00 a year.
