As this months topic fits right in with what I do... I am delivering a paragraph or two.
If you really want your internet to provide you with outstanding opportunities to do business, lets think a little bit about our approach. Do you have a BDC or are you still using an internet department? If your using a BDC you are certainly headed in the right direction. A seperate internet department, not so much.
An internet department / fleet department creates problems for the dealer in a number of ways. The largest problem is the leads. You are paying for leads that are provided to several dealerships at the same time and your internet department is most likely allowing your auto responders to do the follow up. (I shop these systems all the time and am only called about once for every ten submissions.) Next your floor staff thinks it is unfair and this hurts the morale of the staff. Kind of like only allowing part of the staff to use the phones.
Allow your Managers to process the leads if you can not use a BDC. If these leads are passed out morale will improve and your production will go up.
Another way you can move the needle is to stop paying for those leads. Because of the key-word buys of lead providers, these leads tend to capture the shoppers out there who have not decided what or if they will buy. Expensive stuff in todays economy. You may be better off with an ad campagn that targets people ready to do business with you. An ad camaign that targets prospects in your market area, can focus on just that.
Imagine intuitive marketing that appears where your prospects are. On Facebook, Major web sites, Search engines first pages, thousands of directories that deliver content to hand held devices and perhaps even text marketing. This all done Statewide in your area for less than a monthly lead providers fees on average.

This just may improve your numbers, and save you thousands if your current media and SEO is not delivering the results expected.
