What is Different?
10 years ago customers had fewer brands, fewer models and less information than they do these days. I don't need to tell you how competitive the automotive market is today. Based on this fact if you think monthly programs and product are enough to sell cars you would be wrong.
Things have changed in the automotive market today.
One: Customers do more research than ever online before visiting a store.
Two: Customers have more choices when it comes to brands, programs and dealerships than ever before.
Three: Customers are looking for a vehicle but also a dealership experience that is better than the competition.
Four: Closing rates accords North America for salespeople and dealerships on the first visit are between 9% and 15% today.
Now that we know the problem what is the solution?
One: As managers, salespeople and owners we need to get better at capturing the traffic that visit's our dealership.
Two: We need to get better at following up customers that visit our dealerships.
Three: We need to re-motivate customers back to the dealership to buy vehicles.
Four: Closing rates for repeat visits are 50% to 60% or more for repeat visits.
How do you fix it?
Most dealerships we work with believe that they can retrain salespeople to do what needs to be done. Retrain the salespeople and sales managers to do what they are not doing now.
We have found after working with thousands of dealerships over the past 20 years that this just does not work.
The Solution
First: The first step is for owner’s managers and salespeople to become accountable and start capturing traffic details. Believe it or not most stores we visit don't even capture the details on the customers who visit their store now.
Second: Put together a game plan to follow up the customers who don't buy and re-motivate them to return to the store to buy a new or used vehicle.
