Good evening Dealer Elite members,
More details on the deal Between Internet Site Yahoo and TrueCar which has fallen through. After working with TrueCar before the industry and state Lawyers started attacking the company, the facts are finally out in the open.
Here are the details from auto news:
http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20120709/RETAIL0...
Unlike other automotive portals like cars.com TrueCar went head on with dealers and car companies and lost. They are now trying to rebuild their company and reputation of course and as an industry we need to make a choice.
One: Do we want sites bringing the GroupOn model to the industry and dictating what we can sell vehicles for and what our profit should be?
Two: Do we want sites like hotels.com or Travelocity.com to control the marketing and sales of our dealer body?
Three: Should we as dealers pay sites like TrueCar and others to do our marketing for us?
The answer to all these question is NO!
Now I am not saying there is no room for marketing channels online. But the dealerships and car makers should set the terms, and control the price of their products and services. Don't fall for tha "price" sells everything model!
As an industry we need to start looking at the big picture and drive the change we want to see. Do you see Apple computer advertising deep discounts? Do you see high end hotels offering 50% off? (Well maybe Upton 50% off on hotels.com)
All I am saying is as an industry we need to learn how to market better, treat customers better and maximize our profitability as well.
Change is tough yes, but what Groupon, Google and TrueCar are planning is robbery not real change.
We invest time, money and we deserve to maximixe our opportunity. don't be fooled by the promises.
Great service, great products, great staff, transparency and the ability to market your business effectively will create "growth" in today's market!
I would love feedback and of course any other thoughts or ideas.
Market your dealership offline or online and keep 100% o the profit!
Have a great day, and don't let another company tax your profits!
