Pros and Cons of Moving To a Bigger Space

Just like we often realize that grass isn’t always greener on the other side, moving to a bigger space does not necessarily have to be the right choice for everyone.

If you ever thought if only your house was bigger, or better, things would be perfect, rest assured this isn’t necessarily the case.

  1. Are You Ready To Move To a Bigger Home

Whether you’re expanding your family or simply want an extra or more spacious living space, getting a bigger space isn’t necessarily always the answer as a larger home can end up creating even more problems than you had in the first place.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is whether more space is what you truly need? Very often, people think they need more space when their problems would be solved with remodeling. It can be a bigger kitchen or a repurposed room, and odds are, upgrading your current living space should be cheaper than moving to a bigger one.

However, if you need more rooms as you are expanding your family or want your dog to have a garden, you do need a bigger space. However, you need to ensure that you can afford it and sometimes that involves staying up and thinking of an alternative short-term solution until you save for it.

When choosing your new place, do not forget to analyze the neighborhood, how it will affect your daily commute and how it will impact your lifestyle. The bottom line is that getting a bigger place should make you better off. That means that the trouble of going through the hustle of moving, along with financial costs, will be outweighed by a better quality of life you’ll be getting in return.

  1. Pros and Cons of Moving To a Bigger Space

The painting will be a chore. Another tradeoff is the lack of coziness that you need to give up in order to gain more room to spread out. But, although you will have more space to actually clean, as paradoxical as this may sound, there will be less need for cleaning simply because a few toys on the floor won't’ be able to clutter the space. While it will take longer to clean the house from top to bottom, you won’t have to do it as often because you won’t be walking over the same spots all the time and therefore, floors won’t get dirty as fast.

Although everyone expects a bigger case comes with a higher Vectren utility bill, this doesn’t have to be the case if you and your family are more mindful about energy usage. If you combine energy efficiency with a house surrounded by trees, you might even end up with the exact same bill

  1. Moving Tips

Moving might be fun the first time you do it, but if you will hardly find a person who will eagerly do it for the second time because relocating takes time, effort, money, and a lot of energy. Fortunately, there are ways to make moving less stressful.

Create a checklist and a timeline

You are also less likely to forget something.

Declutter

You will pack less as you will make sure not to bring with you anything that no longer serves a purpose or brings you joy.

Label wisely

Give each room a color. Make headings and subheadings such as “kitchen-plates” so you don’t search for a coffee mug there.

Pack wisely

Heavy things go in smaller boxes and lighter can go in larger ones. Make sure there is no empty space and protect breakable items as well as liquids with plastic wrap. Who said you need to use boxes? You can repurpose hampers, suitcases, and laundry bins. Also, don’t forget to use vacuum sealing for your clothes or roll them to save space. Also, think of unpacking by creating a pull tab from a wool string that you can use to open moving boxes without needing scissors.

Save time by not rushing

If you just throw things in boxes without putting thought into them, you will regret it later and spend much more time unpacking.

Takeaway

There isn’t such a thing as perfect because pros and cons come with everything in life. How else would we know to appreciate the good stuff? So make sure that moving to a bigger space brings a lot more of the good stuff compared to the pain of moving.
