Push Beyond Your Feelings

The last thing I wanted to do was jump in the car and go to work. See I want to stay in bed. I wasn’t feeling too well, I was a little bit croaky in the throat. And I just wasn’t feeling on top of my game.

You know often, you might take the day off or even when you do go to the dealership, you just don’t feel “up” to everything that you got to do.

So maybe you avoid that walking customer, you let another salesperson guide. Maybe you avoid the phone call, the incoming phone inquiry. Maybe you don’t do as many follow ups or prospects that you would normally do.

See if you want to be successful in 2014 in sales, you need to push beyond how you feel and move in to every opportunity that today has for you.

You know, I wear this little armband that says “Don’t quit. Pain equals reward”. So even when you’re not feeling well, it’s an opportunity to put on your shirt, put on your suit, and get ready for the day and make sure you’re maximizing every opportunity that there is today.

How do you do this? Well I believe the only way you can do this is to have firm daily disciplines. What I mean by daily disciplines is, how many calls are you going to make today and every day, with follow up, with prospecting, and with all the other opportunities that today might throw up.

How many calls are you going to make? What are the things you’re going to do at certain time? So you got to have what I call, and you know I call it, The Hour Power! Where you sit behind your desk from 9 till 10, and you follow up people for that 1 hour. Regardless of how you feel, you give every effort to that 1 hour power to call as many people as possible.

So the only way to be successful today, is to push beyond how you feel and to move in to every opportunity that today stores up. You know I didn’t want to do anything but grab the remote, watch television, and go back to bed. But I knew it was potential out there today. I knew there’s an opportunity for me to earn more money. There’s opportunity out there for you today to earn more money.

So regardless of how you feel today. Regardless of what sort of a night you have last night. Whether it was a bender, or maybe you were just a little bit tired, maybe you got kids like myself and they kept you up all night. Regardless of that! You’re going to push beyond those feelings in order to reach you selling potential. The only way to do it is by implementing daily disciplines and making your follow up calls, spending that time in hour of power and looking for every opportunity that today will throw.

Push beyond how you feel in order to get what you want!

Great selling!

Well Howdy "Mr Tee,"  So you "come from the land down under," huh.  I didn't pay much attention to this post as I've never been big on "motivators" who preach suffering as a basis for accomplishment.  Personally, I hate pain.  But, you keep at it, and take comfort knowing there are many like you "blathering" this same message.  During my many years listening to inspirationalists, from Napoleon Hill to Tony Robbins, I've concluded the key to everyone's "get going" switch is found internally, thus "turning it on" is a highly personal action brought on by a highly personal motivation.  I'm sure I can get some negative feedback about this, but it would mostly come from those in the business of peddling this self-induced "torture."

Now, moving on, I wanted to add a little insight to your last week's "BMW shopping experience" post.  I recently heard a rumor, and until I read your post, would have bet it wasn't true, that BMW was taking a page of history from England and moving all of their worst sales reps to Australia.  Mighty weird, but something to consider.  Then, there's the other possibility the rep took one look at you and thought, "I'm not wasting my time as this guy couldn't finance a pack of cigarettes."  In truth, I'm really not qualified to guess the reason for your experience, as I don't know much about Australia other that I watched "Quigley Down Under" three times and really liked it.

Considering your shopping trip might be sincere, I think you should forget those "peasant rides," BMW and M-B, and look for something more befitting of your "rugged, yet sophisticated individualism."  Word has it that Belchfire Manufacturing, located here in the states, is reintroducing their "LaStatus" model, originally built between '54 to '56.  My Navy Hero Uncle, a confirmed bachelor until his death "behind the wheel," had one and proclaimed he "had to beat women off with a stick" when he drove it.  Seriously, wouldn't you like to own a car that created "instant lust"?  Imagine your friends' amazement when you roll up in front of them, jump out and pop the hood, and proudly announce it's a "straight sixteen!"  It reminds me of my favorite closing line when I sold M-Bs.  "Come on 'Mr T,' don't you deserve a Belchfire LaStatus"?

Motivation must also be moderated just as a jockey holds-back a race horse because it does not know how to pace itself at the beginning so that it has enough left at the end.
