Ideally there is very little turnover and when there is an opening you promote from within- but even that strategy creates the need to recruit on occasion.  If you have a growing business you will need to recruit.  Recruiting is not something you do when you need to make a quick hire- it is an ongoing process that includes creating the type of company that people want to work at, referral programs, smart candidate sourcing (hint-ads are a waste of money).  Dealers also have to overcome a negative perception that many candidates may have.  Check out KPA free webinars on how to" Hire the Right Person" for in depth advice on best practices for recruiting and hiring specifically for dealerships along with checklists and whitepapers.  www.kpaonline.com

I think that smart dealers interview, hire and train to their process.  For dealers in aggressive markets, they need to be looking for potential hires to be very aggressive from the interview on.  For dealers who are more about sharing what they do for the customer, less is more.  When we consider letting a dealer engage us, we spend a lot of time on what type of dealership they operate.  Our success with each client we accept is that we adapt our interveiw and even some of our training to their process.  Dealrs can do that if they are hiring and training on their own.  If they don't, the revolving door will continue.
