Social Media Tip #107: LinkedIn No Longer Hosting Standalone Tweet App As Of January 31st

As you get your 2012 marketing campaign underway, don't forget about LinkedIn, a powerful marketing and communications tool with over 35 million registered users.

Savvy business professionals use LinkedIn to connect with other industry leaders, exchange ideas, and participate in relevant groups. The following is a notice to all of you LinkedIn members who connect your account content and activity with Twitter:

LinkedIn has just announced that beginning February 1st it will no longer be supporting the standalone Tweets Application on LinkedIn. This is the app that displays tweets from everyone you follow on Twitter on your LinkedIn homepage.

The company said that as of January 31st, this module will no longer be available. However, you may still go to your settings and choose to send all tweets, or tweets with “#in” to your Twitter account.

Here’s how LinkedIn describes the change:

Update About the Tweets Application on LinkedIn

We wanted to let you know about a change coming soon to the Tweets Application on LinkedIn.

1. First, we are not eliminating the ability to send updates between your Twitter and LinkedIn accounts. You can still go to your Settings page and choose to send either all tweets or only tweets with a #in hashtag to your LinkedIn status updates. It’s up to you. Again, tweets imported from Twitter into the LinkedIn network updates stream will not be affected.

If you haven’t yet joined your Twitter and LinkedIn accounts, here’s how you do it.

2. At the end of January, however, we will not be supporting the standalone Tweets Application on LinkedIn (see image), that displays tweets from everyone you follow on Twitter on your LinkedIn homepage. As of January 31st, this module will no longer be available.
