Stop using STUPID WORDS that hurt your career - Here's the STUPID WORD of the DAY

I watched a fun video on dealerelite this morning that had a fantastic message about ignoring when another salesperson says 'that guy's been here before' and having the confidence to go and serve that customer and sell them a vehicle in spite of the other salesperson's shortcomings. SO TRUE.

Something about the video, and many other videos, bothered the hell out of me so I thought, what the heck, let's talk about it!

Stupid Word of the Day: UPs - For years we've been taught to call our customers "UPs". Dictionary.com has this definition (as one of many) for the word 'up': "out of bed: to get up."

Bloody hell people! It all makes sense now. We call them 'ups' because they get us up off our asses, they wake us 'up' so we'll go do our job. NO NO NO.

The tem UP is stupid. When you speak to a customer, a potential buyer, also known as another human being, do you think they'd enjoy being called an 'up'? If you weren't in the car business and familiar with the term 'up' would you want to be referred to as one?

This term is disrespectful but the other reason this is a STUPID word is because it causes us to view the BUYER...the other HUMAN...with less value subconsciously. When we think of them as PEOPLE we value them more. When we think of them as the people who are providing for our families, they are more important to us. When we think of them as an 'up', we will treat them like an 'up' no matter what we try to do. We have turned them into an impersonal word that holds no value, no meaning, and we cannot possibly give them the best treatment known to man because we're not dealing with a buyer anymore. We're just dealing with....well...an 'up'.
