The auto industry for as long as I can remember has been a business where many managers seem to constantly try and destroy their sales people physically as well as mentally. Just the other day I heard several managers talking to several of their sales people using phrases like:, "Well, if you can't do it, I'll find someone who can...", "Why aren't YOU selling more cars...", "What's wrong with YOU today....", Why don't YOU....", "Well, when I was selling cars I never had that problem and if YOU don't fix it YOU can pack your bags....", "Why can't YOU close that customer...", and the list goes on.
My question is, What are you doing as a manager to HELP your sales people succeed vs telling them all the reasons they can't succeed? One of my favorite quotes from Zig Ziglar is, "YOU will get all you want in life if you HELP other people get what they want." Strong managers don't put others down, they lift them up and HELP them succeed.
