Technician Time
Technician time must be managed very well to maximize service and parts sales performance. Technician time cannot be stored, refrigerated, or put into a saving account. If it is not used during the day it is lost forever! The loss is multiplied when you consider parts revenue is generally equal to labor sales in service. So if your shop loses 2 hours a day of Technician time and there are 15 Technicians in your shop your dealership lost $4,500 in parts and labor sales for the day! With 5 working days that amount jumps to $22,500 lost for the week and with 52 weeks in the year it is a staggering $1,170,000!
Gee is my calculator working correctly? With this example it simply shows the need to have scheduling down to an art and invest in the best programs available. I am puzzled looking at the best state of the art DMS scheduling it is not the best program to track Technician time and reduce losses. Many shops place such little importance on Technician time they have no route sheet tracking progress.
Today’s best programs for scheduling include contacting your customer by text or email the day before to remind of appointments, text or email for approvals, and make real appointments on line where the can also check the status of their vehicle without a call. The best scheduling program I have seen is Shop watch by Autoeforms. The program is a very low cost and very high benefit so take some time to check it out!!
