The Two Rules

Most of us have heard about the two rules in life. Number one; don’t worry about the small stuff. Number two; it’s all small stuff. In business however, we must challenge this way of thinking.

The small stuff will make the difference between a successful endeavor and complete failure. As matter of fact, we must consider the small stuff in every decision that we make on a daily basis. Have you ever gone into a restroom facility and washed your hands to find there are no towels to dry them? Definitely a small thing that might make an impression on the quality of the company you are in. If the restroom facility is dirty it will cause many customers not to come back and do business there. Simple things like answering the phone with a customer in front of you make them feel unimportant. Do you want to spend money with anyone that makes you feel unimportant? This is another little thing that might be considered small stuff. Thanking your employees for their efforts or outstanding results isn’t small stuff. It gives them the understanding their appreciated and recognized for their efforts. Employees are never small stuff. Customers are never small stuff. Family is never small stuff.

I understand the point of these two rules is to express how destructive worry can be in our lives. Today I challenge you to remove this worry by placing your total focus and attention on the small stuff.

Sincerely,
