The invention of USB has bought a revolution in the industry of connectors.  Now one may have doubt that why are connectors used? Initially, the devices such as calculators were invented to make the calculation process simpler. However, it was later developed into a computer, and various useful things were done. USB is so beneficial that it supports data transfer rates up to 12 Mbps and through one single port and one can connect up to 127 peripherals. USB acts as a "plug and play." When a USB is connected to a computer, the operating system typically detects the device and then installs the required drivers.

One feature which is appreciable about USB is that it works on any platform (a cross-platform technology). Generally, in a computer when a new device is installed, the system has to be restarted. However, when gadgets are used with USB, there is no need to restart the computer. The devices can be connected and removed after use. This technology is known as hot-swappable technology.

The development of USB did not happen in one day. It took some years to develop every version from USB 1 to latest USB Type C. Each version showed a benefit when compared to its lower version. The USB technology has advanced to such an extent that now USB can be used without any cable. The latest optical mouse is the best example for this.
