So you’re about to have a couple days off, what’s the last thing that you do before you leave the dealership? Let me guess, you set an Out-of-Office Assistant on your email right?   

Remember back to when you were dating…You send that girl a text message, and if you don’t get a response back within 5 minutes, you think something is up… Well it’s exactly the same with our customers. In 2014, customers are getting more and more impatient. They want information “right now”. And if you can’t answer their question, they’ll ask it to someone else!  

Research tells us customers expect: 
- A reply to their text within 15 minutes 
- A reply to their phone call within 30 minutes 
- A reply to their email within 4 hours.   

So why on earth would you set an out-of-office assistant for 3 days’ time when you get back? Saying if they have any urgent matters, contact somebody they’ve never met. It’s Insane!   

We do so much follow up just trying to talk to customers and when that customer finally responds to us via email, we wouldn’t be in a position to be able to answer their questions in order to make the most out of the opportunity to sell them a car?   

The top reasons that people go elsewhere and shop at another dealership are because customers didn’t have their calls returned, and their emails returned. So why on earth would you have an out-of-office assistant?   

So here’s 2 obvious things you can do instead. 

1. Get emails on your phone and check it a couple of times throughout the day. 

2. Get your manager or somebody else in your dealership to constantly check your emails.   

If you’re receiving that email on your day off, or your managers receiving it on your day off, and you can contact them straight away, you’ve got a much higher chance of being able to sell that prospect a car. So go and turn your out of office assistant off, and never turn in on again!
