Swapalease.com, the nation’s largest car lease marketplace, released results of its latest survey asking how interested consumers are to Tesla’s manufacturer-direct model when car shopping. According to the survey results, 67.4% of women and 75.0% of men are “all in favor of it”.
The online survey was presented to more than 2,500 consumers across the U.S. from May 10 – May 30, and the purpose was the find out if car shoppers are interested in buying or leasing a car directly from the manufacturer. Tesla has quickly grown in popularity for its feature-rich electric vehicles, yet its manufacturer-direct model has been a topic of much debate throughout the automotive industry.
As a benchmark to the survey, 54.4% of women polled said they were familiar with Tesla’s model compared with 77.3% of men. Among the other key findings:
“This survey clearly indicates that there is a lot of room for improvement with the experience women currently have at the dealership,” said Anne Fleming, President of Women-Drivers.com. “While our surveys also indicate that this is improving, it may not be occurring fast enough.”
Interestingly enough, only 12% of women said they would also shop for jewelry online, compared with 69% of men. Also, 41% of women said they would buy or sell a home without a real estate agent, compared with 40% of men. Lastly, 46% of both men and women would purchase tickets to a sporting event online.
Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, Swapalease.com is the world’s largest automotive lease marketplace and the pioneer in facilitating lease transfers online. More specifically Swapalease.com matches individuals who want to get out of their lease with people who are looking for short-term lease agreements. The best sales person I know is a "personal shopper" in the men's suits department of Neiman Marcus. With her assistance they happily buy a new wardrobe ! A car is the ultimate new wardrobe and you wear it everyday so it better be right. A car changes how people feel about themselves and the world. And even how the world treats them. I found this old commercial that gets into that -- somewhat crudely but the messages are there. I like the football star vs the nerd with the Mustang and hot cheerleader. Eat football field burnout dirt !! Subtle !
"33% of women and 31% of men feel they could get a better deal directly from the manufacturer"
I wonder if these folks would still feel this way if they compared Tesla's Apple-like new car margins (25%+) to that of their local dealer+OEM margins (around 12-16% combined).
