As a manager, and a business owner I am constantly amazed at how people hold themselves back.   One thing I noticed recently and I think is probably an epidemic in this country, is that people get very very caught up in their comfort zone.  I have developed a speech for these people and have had much success with it. ( especially sales managers)   Simply take your employee that is living in COMFORT and tell them that what you want them to do for the next 30 days is just focus on getting better at what they suck at.  Yes, it sounds harsh, but in reality it is a wake up call kind of meeting.  The reason they do so much of what they are good at is that they are comfortable and LIKE doing that work.  They always get a sense of accomplishment when doing a task they are great at.  But what does that do for growth of that employee, department or the store in general?  Gets us stuck is what it gets us. By forcing them to work at what they suck at.... they being to get better at it, understand it better and do more of it.  By doing more they get better and thus miraculously a new skill set has been added to their tool box.

Just a quick blog today.... Demand people get better at what they suck at and you will find people with more tricks in their bag, happier to do the work, more efficient and profitable at it for their department and the store.

I should mention that I do this myself.   I push myself to get better at things I suck at...it has helped a ton.

Troy, success isn't comfortable. Force yourself to do what you dont want to do so you can be who you want to be. Staying out of your comfort zone will enable you to grow; the comfort zone is expanded, thus you must stretch again..and again. That's why it's called growth and not exist. :) Good post brother.
