For some, this is Good Friday. For others, it is TGI Friday (I don't mean the restaurant).

What's the deal about Fridays?

mmYeah. So, here we are at the end of a week. For many that brings a sigh of relief. In fact, I dare say for most, that sigh of relief comes every Friday, and in that sense -- Every Friday is "good." But something bothers me.

I've done it before, and you'd be lying if you denied doing it -- looking at the clock at about this time (it's 1pm here), pushing back from the desk, and letting your mind jump ahead to the movie tonight, the fun or chores or family events for the weekend.

Then on Sunday, most will say "ohhh no tomorrow is Monday!" I suppose for those who work over what the rest of us call the week "end", the only variance is the name of the last day before your break and the name of the first day of starting up again.

Is what you're doing during the week really so bad that you can't wait to get away from it?

You should ask yourself why you do it.

Seriously.

If you saw someone eating spicy food and popping antacids, you'd ask them "why do you continue to eat that stuff?" So, ask yourself -- "why do I continue to do something 40-60+ hours a week that leaves me feeling like I need to escape?"

You DO need to escape--or better yet-- to rescape your life.

Let me digress just a little. I saw an infographic on Linkedin today about why businesses fail. As I looked at it, I realized it was based on a survey of people who had failed, and obviously the question asked of them was "what are the reasons you failed?" Twenty some percent said cash flow, a bunch said wrong product, a few more said wrong market. It was a laundry list of "not MY fault" excuses. I'll talk more about that next week. But back to Friday....

Why are you looking for an escape at the end of the work week? Don't answer that with anything close to an excuse that starts with "Because they"... "Because it"... or any other blame something or someone else answers. Flush those.

Start your answer with "Because I"

You are the lid on your own pressure cooker life (InstaPot for you yungins). You are the one responsible for the week just ended, and your response to it.

That's often hard to grasp, and certainly not an idea that the average person welcomes.

But, then... who wants to be average?

Look, Good Friday is a day that the Christians set aside to reflect upon (or perhaps celebrate) a certain Friday that for Jesus, didn't turn out so "good." But, perhaps there's a lesson in the name and the seeming mismatch of the name to the events of that day.

(Here comes the lesson)

Horrible events, nasty people, overwhelming rejection by others, getting beat up, disapointing lack of support from your team, irate customers, and even getting slapped with a big dose of rejection from your dad... none of that makes your day, your week, your life any less Good.

It's me, and it's you.

Why was this week the way it was?

"Because I...."
