Ignore Social Media at your peril. Have a clear strategy and policy. And do yourself a favour, LISTEN to the conversation for an opportunity to engage.
Don't get left behind!
Use media and be social...

Sell without Selling... B.C.
Perfect comment Bobby.
People and processes sell cars and service -- in that order -- but in today's consolidating auto industry technology and the efficiencies provided by social media powered by leveraging your customers C2C marketing messages is the key to profitability.
It's most definitely one of the keys to profitability in todays marketplace. I like that you emphasise getting the basics in order, the people and processes, as without that, it doesn't matter how good you are at Social Media.
Perfect comment for the best and the brightest automotive website this side of the planet -dE

Social media is often confused with social networking -- which has always reflected human nature and our desire to rely on relationships vs. product and/or price when making a buying decision. Social media is simply the new online technologies that accomodate the hyper speeds of empowered consumers travelling on the Internet Super Highway looking for the information they need to make a buying decision supported by like minded consumers with shared experiences.
Be a resource with valuable information that affects everyday life! Provide information and tips that do not have to do with car sales. People will follow and so will the sales.

Agreed Paul! Build your Brand and reputation, and the sales will organically come. Be original, informative, helpful and amusing now and again, just like in real life!
Social media is not a venue for aggressive advertising. If you walked into a party and started peddling your inventory you'd be ignored at best. Social media is about building relationships. The sales will follow naturally.
