Yesterday I am in a local Dealership recruiting for the Dealership and one of the people I am interviewing is from another like dealership in the suburban area.  He was there for 30 days and given no training.  Just told to get out and sell some cars.  Stumbling at best he sold four cars.  He saw this Dealerships ad by Automax and decided to set up an interview because we offer training.  Needless to say he will be here this week for training.  This gentleman knows he can sell cars and has such a desire to really learn the business.
Why in this day  would a Dealer waste their time and not train or better yet have Automax Training and Recruiting do the job.

Hey, plugs are cool...even though I would rather have seen you say My company AutoMax and or our partner Jim Ziegler and Ziegler Supersystems....lol...our plug!

The main focus and point here is that you are training and developing....you and your store "get it!"....Congrats!

When I started in the car business in Topeka, after watching some videos in a closet on some Chevrolet's that were on VHS, I was told to go "up" someone! After my first "up" left, my manager screamed and cussed at me for letting the "up" go without a "T.O.".....Then I calmly asked what was a "T.O."??

People who don't care about people don't train, that's the bottom line..Show me a sales manager who doesn't train and I will show you a person with crappy CSI and high turnover with no respect from the sales staff. I wonder how much better I would have been if I went through a decent training program? I know that my learning curve would have been shortened quite a bit.

If people are good enough to get hired they should be good enough to get trained to do the best job they can. I am not the smartest guy in the world but it easier to learn from other people's mistakes.

 It does my business good that not a lot of dealers train their staff. Getting my unfair share is what I like....a lot..

          CJ, I commend you for saying exactly how you feel. Especially when I agree with you! The training business is possible because dealers do not train. Training is the number one, most important thing, that every manager believes someone else should do. Those managers who do not train are the reason trainers are in business. Simply put, it takes less skill to sell a car than it does to train another person to do it. Who gets paid more? The average trainer or the average salesperson? From my experience, I cannot think of one case in retail management, in which the best trainer was promoted over the best producer.

The average dealership will spend something like $3,000.00 per salesperson per month on advertising/marketing. The same dealership spends about $39.00 per salesperson per month on training those sales people and most of that is on factory mandatged programs.

 

I got lucky and my first job as a salespersonthe GM took me under his wing and taught me a lot. His name is Pat Deacon and to this day I think he's one of the smartest guys I've ever met.
