I asked this question this morning on Face Book,lots of great answers....what would dE folks add?

Ink pen.

Good traininig, and some common sense wouldn't hurt either. Also a pen and Business cards.

The mental fortitude to do what they know they should, the desire to always be better than themselves and the the need to always go beyond what the customer expects.

The will to want and plenty of help to get it.

no's to overcome!!

Already successful,- to be green and growing!

Commitment!! Commitment to the profession, commitment to the store, commitment to the sales process, to themselves and on and on and on...

Personality plays a big roll.
An Act of Kindness Goes a Long Way.....

Superior Training, two good ears, perfect practice, a mentor, a duplicatable process, clients, attitude and Commitment and the support of your family...

Honesty and Integrity!

Compassion and the desire to serve in order to get paid! :)

I think COMMITMENT is so important,think of anything in our lives that we have done great...or not so great,relationship,education,job,career,sport....if we are truly honest about the result and the 'why"...isn't it always the amount of commitment or lack there of that determines the result?

Commitment would probably get my vote for the #1 answer, but since it is already said, I will go with....

POSITIVE ATTITUE and a MIND LIKE A SPONGE!  Lose the "knowitall" attitude and just absorb everything you can: Professional training is key, but also ongoing daily training through social media sites such as dealerELITE and fb, 20 groups, reading materials, watching video, watching others, mentors, managers who are leaders, etc... Also you can learn from those who do everything wrong... Learning what doesn't work, is sometime an easier lesson!

That is my 2 cents....

A mentor.  Nearly all other professions provide some type of mentorship or apprenticeship to newly acquired talent.  Rarely are people in other walks of life thrown directly into the fray and expected to perform equal to or better than their comtemporaries.  In retail automotive, our customers are the gold.  Yet, in mamy dealerships their is cursory training provided for a limited period of time.  Auto sales is a dynamic and demanding profession covering many disciplines to be successful.  A mentorship program would be beneficial to a new salesperson and of equal value to the dealership.
Yep,got to have a bunch of those!

The commitment to follow and maintain the Positive HABIT Examples the most successful live by, even at the cost of being demeaned by the many mediocre negative habit examples around them.
