Are We at a Cross Roads with our Auto Sales Staff?

Even if you don’t believe, as I do, that high sales staff turnover is the number one issue facing the auto industry today; we certainly can agree it is right at the top of the list. There is not one positive thing that happens at our dealerships as a result of high turnover, and the benefits of low sales turnover are so obvious that I don’t need to list them.

High sales turnover has completely undermined training efforts. It creates the mental attitude amongst many managers…

Social Marketing Starts At Home

Social marketing may be the next best thing but, like all successful next generation solutions, it is built on the foundation of proven old school wisdoms. Word of mouth advertising pre-dates today’s technology driven social marketing as a proven way to build a business.  The fact that people like to do business with people they like and that trust is the foundation for any transaction is a reflection of human nature which is the basis for long term business…

Grind It Out, Til You Find it Out

Grind it out, til you find it out

Last summer I spent a great deal of time teaching my daughter how to drive a stick shift.  Eventually she picked it up after a lot of frustration on her part and mine.  During that time the old phrase “grind it til you find it” kept playing through my head as she tore through the gears of my Jeep.  Thankfully we both survived and so did my Jeep and today she has the skill and knowledge of being able to drive a…

Did you plan your day?

This morning when I got up my mind was running before my eyes were open. Let's see, check in for my flight to San Diego tomorrow, oh and I have to go here, and here, and there, and oh don't forget... I was tired before my feet hit the ground. Here is my question, where was my game plan? Was it written down last night before I went to sleep? I knew there were a lot of things to do. So did my brain. So this morning what happened next is vary important, stop and write a "to do list".  Although…

Is the auto industry ready for Crypto Coins?

About two months ago I set out on a journey to learn everything there was to know about bitcoin.  After looking at all the bad press I wanted to know why the media was so negative.  Lately, what's good is bad and bad is good for my wallet.  i came upon a Bitcoin Secret called ALT Coins.  I messed around with the open source code and bang!... I made AutoCoin.

These coins can help identify people in market.  Customers will buy coins before purchasing vehicles.  They could also be…

Which muscles are you working out?

It always amazes me to hear of the individuals that are willing to rise at 4AM to "hit the gym". I have never heard a person claim to get up at 4AM to "read a book". Your brain is just a muscle. Remember the old saying if you don't use it you loose it? It works just…

Automotive Marketers Show Hollywood how to sell Movie Tickets and Make an Underdog film #1 in the Box Office

I want to congratulate an automotive marketing firm that helped the film SON OF GOD become #1 in the box office office on opening night with a fraction of the budget of the big Hollywood blockbusters. It doesn't surprise me at all that Automotive marketers knew how to generate sales on the weekend that mattered. Despite having a small advertising budget SON OF GOD is #1 in the box office on its opening night in theaters.  Hats off to automotive marketers everywhere because this shows that…

Culture versus Strategy

Have you ever given much thought to what a trainer actually does. Just think about it, is he trying to work a strategy or influence a culture? I've heard it said that "Culture eats Strategy for breakfast".  I will tell you that if you just try to train from the bottom up, you will have limited short term success. That is a strategy. However if you train from the top down you will develop a culture. As an example if you are the CEO/CFO GM or Manager of your company and you are willing to pick…

Don’t Be Intimidated by Customer Loyalty

Many dealers are intimidated by the concept of “customer loyalty.” The simple attempt at trying to design and implement a strategy that creates lifetime customers is certainly a daunting one. It takes a lot of work and effort to accomplish this, for sure. However, just like you train your sales advisors in the steps of the sale and the importance of following each step in…

Your best teacher is your last mistake.

Your best teacher is your last mistake. That only works if you are paying attention. We need to ask if it is the DK or the DE that is the issue. We either Don't Know or Don't Execute. If your a sales consultant you get many opportunities to learn and master your skills. Let's look at some quick numbers, and old rule of thumb was the average Sales Person sells 8 cars, and closes at 20%. Simple math tells us that is 40 opportunities per…
