Way back during the Great Depression in the 1930's Walgreen Drugstores hired Elmer Wheeler to help them sell eggs.
You might ask yourself, "why the hell would Walgreen's be selling eggs?"
Well, they, like all drugstores back then had soda fountains inside the stores. They sold soft drinks, ice cream and most pertinent to this story, milkshakes and malts.
It used to be that a raw egg was sometimes added to beverages to make them smoother and…

Her’s was a 7. She told me it’s what she would rate it. Now it was up to me to convince her mine was a good solid 10. I knew it shouldn’t be too difficult because she told me it was what she was wanting soon after we met.
It was a new F-150 she was after. Not just any F-150. She wanted a 4X4 Supercab with a long bed. That wasn’t impossible but it may as well be since less than 2% of production was Supercab Long…

The biggest problem(s) with sales training is the lack of it being implemented in the store. Managers think they don't need it and consequently it is not supported. The video above is evidence of this problem.
Another BIG problem is that the trainer's attempt to pack too much into their programs. The goal of training from the perspective of dealers and GM's is that sales…

First thing she said after my pick up line (the meet & greet) was, "I'm not buying today". You've heard that one hundreds, maybe even thousands of times before. What happened next took her by surprise.
Though we had never met, I knew a lot about her. She wanted it and she wanted it bad enough to have come to this dealership to get it. She was also willing to get it from me. My job was to get to know her and get her to like me enough to make it happen. So I said to…

Jaime and Shane are hunters. I've had the hunting vs NOT discussion with Shane before (about a leopard hunt he had). It brings in lots of money to SA, but there are many abuses. After Vietnam, I find hunting animals boring and cruel. Love my meat though. Jaime has a spread in E. WA that's about half the size of my daughter's reserve. Huge by WA standards.
Cheers,
Pete
Wow Mike! I had no idea the "Shopper Stopper" had done so well up at Harris. Good on you. I think I accurately characterized (in a very short description) what it does. I always thought it would make a lot of sense but there was a great deal of resistance to invoice-up selling at Olympic, though frankly we found ourselves justifying margin with many of the same techniques - all the time - without a systematic approach.
Nice to connect with someone from my old stomping grounds. I've been sailing in the Bahamas, working on my daughter's 30 square mile wildlife reserve in South Africa, and playing golf at Hilton Head Island, SC (not all at the same time) since I sold out. I'll be back in Seattle during December. Maybe we can get together sometime.
Cheers,
Pete
Mike,
Right. I bought the store from Jack in 1980. Sold it in January 2006. Being a LM dealer was not going to be a good thing for the next few years (Witness demise of Mercury franchise). I'm glad I wasn't there at the end.
Cheers,
Pete
